Holešovice: Art, Culture and Výstaviště
Accommodation in Holešovice
Holešovice in Prague offers a range of options for your stay: art and exhibition venues, events, technical history and leisure activities. If you are looking for a hotel for your trip, you can use the reason for your visit as your first filter. A cultural itinerary, an event at Výstaviště, or an interest in architecture and transport history will lead to different priorities when planning your days. The places below give you concrete starting points for deciding what to focus on during your stay.
Art and Culture
Holešovická tržnice is a protected heritage site in the south of Holešovice.
DOX offers accompanying programmes in its exhibition spaces, in the unique Gulliver airship and in the multifunctional DOX+ hall. Specific programme details may change. If you are travelling for a particular event, check the current programme in advance.
Following its reconstruction, Holešovická Šachta offers three exhibition spaces for presenting art projects. The total area is more than 350 m². In addition to art exhibitions, it hosts theatre performances, readings, lectures, concerts, workshops and film screenings. The distinction can help you choose: DOX focuses on accompanying programmes across several venues, while Šachta combines exhibitions with a broad programme of events.
The Národní muzeum – Lapidárium houses a specialised collection of predominantly stone Czech sculptures dating from the early Middle Ages in the 11th century through to the 19th century. The collection therefore spans several centuries. As of 31 August 2026, the Lapidárium is closed until further notice for technical reasons. If you are planning a visit, check its status again before your trip.
Výstaviště: Panoramas and Leisure
The Výstaviště complex includes the Marold Panorama, an 11-metre-high and 95-metre-long panoramic painting of the Battle of Lipany. The Czech painter Luděk Marold created it in 1897–1898. With its breadth and depiction of a battle, the work offers a different way to engage with history than the accompanying programmes at contemporary art venues.
The Křižík Fountain at Výstaviště is currently used as a venue for one-off events, including concerts, shows, theatre performances and gastronomic events. If you are travelling for a particular event, check the event dates for your travel period.
At the Výstaviště grounds in Holešovice, Mořský svět houses the largest exhibition of marine animals in the Czech Republic. The exhibition includes nearly 150 animal species from Indonesia, Sri Lanka, South America and other countries. The stated places of origin therefore range from South and Southeast Asia to South America.
The Na Výstavišti skate plaza covers 1,400 m² and is intended for skateboarding and other wheeled sports. The Na Výstavišti swimming pool has a 25-metre-long pool. This gives you two clearly distinct leisure options: wheeled sports on a dedicated surface and swimming in a pool with a specified length.
Getting There and Technical History
Výstaviště Praha has very good public transport connections and parking facilities. This information can help you plan your journey to the site.
Holešovický Port is an important technical monument and connects shipping with rail and road transport. The original buildings at Holešovický Port were built in the Art Nouveau style. The port thus combines a technical transport theme with a distinctive architectural feature.
