Čimice: Valleys, history and local culture
Accommodation in Čimice
Čimice offers several specific points to consider when choosing a travel destination: valleys with distinctive natural features, archaeological traces from different periods, a historic chapel, and local art and community events. If you are looking for a hotel in Čimice, you can consider whether the landscape, history or local cultural life should be the main focus of your stay.
Valleys and landscape
Among the most valuable areas of the Čimice Valley are south-facing rock outcrops of hard Proterozoic schist. They support plant communities of rocky steppes, characterized by the steppe grasses Kostřava walliská and Kostřava přitvrdlá. The Draháň Valley is home to many rare plant and animal species. Thus, the geological bedrock and particular steppe grasses are the focus in the Čimice Valley, while the presence of rare species is the focus in the Draháň Valley. If you are interested in nature, these two topics offer different points of interest.
Archaeological traces and architectural history
The Hradiště was inhabited almost continuously from the 5th century BC to the 9th century AD and is protected as a Category I archaeological monument. The area of Čimická tvrz is also an archaeological area with documented or reasonably expected finds. The archaeological evidence covers the Late Roman period, the Migration Period, the Early Middle Ages, the High Middle Ages and the Late Middle Ages. While the Hradiště is notable for its almost continuous period of settlement, Čimická tvrz is characterized by finds from several named periods.
The architectural history includes the former Neoclassical Chapel of St John of Nepomuk, dating from the second half of the 18th century. It stood on the rise of the old village square. Following alterations, only the upper part of the bell tower remains today. A statue of St John of Nepomuk stands in a niche in the chapel. The chapel thus combines a specific historic architectural style and date with a surviving part of the bell tower.
Hiking trails and navigation
The marked routes are clearly described to help you find your way on a hike. The yellow-marked trail starts at the Sídliště Čimice stop, passes through the Draháň Valley and a former mill, and continues to the banks of the Vltava. A blue-marked hiking trail follows part of the circular route back through the Čimice Valley. The yellow trail is described as starting at a transit stop and ending by the river; the blue trail is described as passing through the Čimice Valley as part of the circular route.
