Záběhlice can be explored through several distinct themes: the nature trail on the development of the district, Hamerský Pond, and places of cultural and historical interest. If you are looking for a hotel in Záběhlice, you can take into account whether you are especially interested in a themed trail, the history of a pond, or historic buildings when choosing your destination. The route details help distinguish the nature trail from the walk to the Hostivař Reservoir as separate options.

Nature Trail and Walks

The Záběhlice nature trail is just under five kilometers long and has seven stops. It presents the historical development of this district. The route therefore combines a specific length with a local theme: the focus is on the development of Záběhlice, covered at seven stops. For a walk with a historical focus, the nature trail offers a clearly defined guide; its length, number of stops, and theme go together.

The route, marked in red, ends on Záběhlická Street near the V Korytech bus stop. From there, you can continue along Hamerský Pond, through Trojmezí and past Toulcův dvůr, all the way to the Hostivař Reservoir. This walk is 5.5 kilometers long. This gives you two different route options: the nature trail, which is just under five kilometers long, and the 5.5-kilometer walk to the reservoir. You can use the two distances as different points of reference when planning: the nature trail has a historical focus, while the other walk has a specific destination and a named route.

Hamerský Pond: History and Water Supply

The history and water supply of the area take center stage at Hamerský Pond. The pond was created in 1770, when copper hammer mills were established there. It is fed by a watercourse that branches off from the Botič and separates from the stream at the Záběhlický weir. The pond’s creation in connection with the copper hammer mills and its link to the Botič describe two different aspects: the historical reason for its construction and the water’s route to the pond.

The remains of a medieval fortress dating from the time of Wenceslas IV can also be visited at the pond. This is an earlier historical reference than the pond’s creation in 1770 and gives a visit to Hamerský Pond a second point of historical interest. The HAMR-Záběhlice sports complex is also located by the pond.

Church and Cemetery

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary complex includes an adjoining cemetery. This adds another cultural and historical connection, distinct from those at Hamerský Pond: here, the church and cemetery belong together, while at the pond, the 1770 construction and the medieval fortress remains represent different historical periods.
