Vstiš: Village History, Ponds and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Vstiš
Vstiš combines a distinctive village history with waterways and cycling. Three questions are especially helpful when planning a trip: Would you like to learn about the historic village square of Staré Vstiše and the Vachtlův Mill, explore the ponds, or make a cycling route the focus of your visit? A fairy-tale event and local sports facilities also add to the options. This makes it easy to plan a stay around your interests and reasons for visiting.
Vstiš Between Water and History
The Dnešický potok flows from south to north through almost the entire cadastral area of Vstiš and the historic part of the municipality before joining the Radbuza. The ponds also represent different eras: Kastlův rybník, one of two ponds in Vstiš, was created in 1670; Nový vstišský dates from 1966. Their origins therefore span the 17th to the 20th century. There is a beach and fishing opportunities at Kastlův rybník. Check local conditions before your visit if you plan to use the beach or go fishing.
Staré Vstiše and the Vachtlův Mill
The historic village square of Staré Vstiše is lined with more than three dozen former farmsteads. Their gable ends face the square, forming an urban ensemble of note. Their shared orientation defines the character of the square. On its south side stands a chapel built in 1906 in the Neo-Gothic style. It is an important part of this public space.
The Vachtlův Mill is privately owned; do not assume that the interior is open to visitors. A document issued by the abbot of the Vyšehrad Chapter of Canons mentions the mill in 1293, while the completed complex underwent its most recent major renovation in 1850. More than five centuries separate the documentary mention from the last major renovation.
Cycling in Vstiš
From Staré Vstiše, cycle route C1 heads west along a paved, purpose-built road, passing the Vachtlův Mill complex on its way toward Chotěšov. It serves both international long-distance cycling and everyday mixed recreational use by pedestrians and cyclists. The “Prague – Plzeň – Regensburg” cycle route also passes through Vstiš. If you plan to ride C1, check current route conditions before setting out.
Sports, Events and Getting There
The sports complex in Bajerka includes a football pitch and outdoor volleyball courts. Bubules is a traditional fairy-tale event in Vstiš, held at the end of the summer holidays. Exact dates vary from year to year; if the event is the reason for your visit, check the date for the relevant year. Vstiš is served by buses. As services and timetables can change, check the connection for your travel day.
