Vichov: History, Chapel and Walks
Accommodation in Vichov
Vichov can be explored for trip planning from two perspectives: cultural history in the village and time outdoors south of the village. Its historical connections range from the first written mention to the chapel; further regional points of interest add to the natural and cultural landscape. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first decide which of these themes you want to shape your stay.
History and Chapel
The first written mention of Vichov dates from 1342. This date marks the place’s written record. According to some sources, the Hussite priest and ideologue Mistr Jakoubek ze Stříbra was born in Vichov. The historical references thus lead from a specific date to a possible biographical connection with Hussite history.
The roadside chapel was completely reconstructed at the beginning of the 21st century. It has colorful stained-glass windows; inside is a memorial plaque to the victims of the First World War. Different aspects come together here: the reconstruction as a structural development, the windows as a design detail, and the plaque as a memorial. This combination makes the chapel a tangible point of reference for exploring Vichov’s cultural history. The two dates serve different purposes: 1342 refers to the first written mention, while the beginning of the 21st century refers to the chapel’s reconstruction.
The Pond and Its Former Summer Use
Víchovský rybník is also known as Víchovák; both names refer to the same pond. For many years, it was a popular natural swimming spot in summer. The alternative name helps identify the pond when it is referred to by different names, while its former use for swimming describes its place in Vichov’s summer leisure history.
Walks South of the Village
South of Vichov, you can take a walk or go for a drive along a former farm track. The route passes some distance from Víchovský rybník. The route information and the pond’s former use for swimming are different travel-related points of interest: one is an option for outdoor activity, the other its historical role as a natural swimming spot. The surface and access to the track may change, so check the conditions before setting out.
Getting Your Bearings in the Area
For general orientation, Vichov is roughly halfway between Stříbro and Černošín. The Černošínský bor Natural Monument lies in the area around Vichov, south of Černošín. The Pod Volfštejnem heritage site, around the ruins of the castle of the same name, is also in this wider area. The two regional points of reference have different focuses: Černošínský bor is a natural monument, while Pod Volfštejnem is associated with the castle ruins. In this way, natural and historical themes in the surrounding area complement the local cultural attractions.
