Plasy combines cultural history and architecture with a nature trail and practical, hands-on activities. Here you can find a tour of the Metternich crypt, the Baroque granary and a building exhibition, as well as activities focused on nature and historical change. The options range from sightseeing tours and a themed trail to activities where visitors can try things out for themselves.

Monastery and Building History

The tour of the Metternich crypt mainly takes visitors to the family crypt and provides information about the Church of St. Wenceslas and the Metternich family. The tour’s availability may vary by season; if you want to make it a definite part of your plans, check the current dates before your visit.

There is free parking for cars and buses right in front of the ticket office at Plasy Monastery.

The Baroque granary in Plasy is open to visitors as part of one of the tours run by the Plasy Monastery administration. It contains a two-storey Early Gothic chapel dedicated to St. Wenceslas and St. Mary Magdalene, as well as a 47-metre-high tower with a monumental Baroque clock mechanism dating from 1686. The chapel and the clock mechanism thus represent different features housed in the same building: sacred Early Gothic architecture and Baroque technology in the tower.

The permanent building exhibition of the National Technical Museum in Plasy offers a different approach to building history. It takes visitors through the entire site of the former brewery. Unlike a visit to a single building, the exhibition route here covers a whole former brewery complex.

Nature Trail and Hands-on Activities

The Naučná stezka Plasy nature trail is 3.25 kilometres long and has nine information panels about natural and historical features. Unlike the building exhibition, it connects nature and history along a route. The trail has a workbook with a route map and descriptions of the information panels; it also includes multiple-choice questions and additional activities for children. The map and panel descriptions combine wayfinding with information about the stops. The questions and activities offer another way to explore the features covered.

At the National Technical Museum’s building play area, visitors of all ages can use wooden blocks to try out their own constructions. A model of Plasy Monastery can also be used to recreate various historical stages in the site’s development. This combines practical building with an exploration of the site’s earlier development.

More Experiences and Travel Planning

At Plasy Zoo, visitors can feed raccoons, coatis and lemurs. Feeding availability may change; if this activity is important to you, check the latest information before your visit.

When planning your hotel stay in Plasy, you can consider not only the subject matter but also how you want to explore: some activities take you through buildings or an exhibition site, while others combine information with tasks or hands-on construction. This lets you tailor your stay to the topics and kinds of participation that interest you most.
