Accommodation in Nevolice
If you are choosing a destination based on village history, literary connections or walking routes, Nevolice offers several specific points of interest. The chapel and memorial stand together in the village square; links to Alois Jirásek, a cycling route and tourist trails provide other points of interest. The surrounding landscape is shaped by arable fields, permanent grassland and wooded areas. Nevolice can thus be understood through its historic buildings, literary history and landscape.
Village Square: Chapel and Memorial
St Martin’s Chapel stands in the centre of the village square, with the memorial to those who fell in the First World War directly beside it. The chapel was built in 1879 and is dedicated to Saint Martin, the patron saint of farmers. The memorial commemorates six local residents who did not return from the First World War. It was erected on 30 May 1926.
The memorial’s design is also distinctive: it consists of a conical granite pylon on a base of cyclopean masonry. The soaring pylon and the base, made of irregularly arranged stones, differ in both material and form. Visitors interested in local history will therefore find both a religious dedication and a memorial to the fallen in the same square.
Literary Connections and Folk Architecture
There are two connections to Alois Jirásek: in 1882, the writer attended a dance at the U Vachurů inn in Nevolice; he also gathered material in Nevolice for his novel Psohlavci. The event points to a specific social occasion, while the material-gathering relates to his literary work. Another perspective on local architectural culture can be found at Farmhouse No. 36, an example of local folk architecture. This farmhouse adds another example of traditional local architecture to the buildings in the village square.
Cycling Route and Trails
Cycling Route 2014 passes through the Nevolice area and is 56 kilometres long in total. This length refers to the entire route. Check the current signposting before setting off to plan your ride. A tourist trail also passes through Nevolice.
A field path used as a tourist trail runs parallel to the old hollow way. If you plan to walk this path, check local conditions before setting out. The cycling route and the trails through the village offer different points of reference for planning: the total length of the cycling route is known, while the field path follows the old hollow way.
Landscape Around Nevolice
Most of the Nevolice area consists of arable fields and permanent grassland. The local landscape also includes wooded areas in fields, tree-lined roads, remnants of tree avenues in the fields and scattered trees. South of Nevolice, the Nevolický potok flows through a biocorridor. Alongside the farmland, the tree features and the stream corridor offer a different perspective on the surroundings from the buildings in the village centre.
