Město Touškov: Heritage Conservation Area, History and Cycle Path
Accommodation in Město Touškov
If you are considering Město Touškov as a destination for a hotel stay, local history and cycling are two clearly defined interests. The protected heritage conservation area, historic buildings and commemorative plaques represent the first focus; the cycle path along the Mže offers a separate, specifically described point of interest.
Historic Sites and Buildings
Město Touškov’s protected heritage conservation area was designated by Czech Ministry of Culture Decree No. 476/92 Coll. The present-day parish church of Město Touškov, the Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, was built in 1777–1778. If you are planning to attend a service, please check access in advance. The Trinity monument on Dolní náměstí was erected in 1723 by sculptor Karel Legát. The Baroque rectory was built in 1746 as a summer residence for the abbots of Kladruby.
The dates place the three sites in chronological order: the monument dates from 1723, the rectory from 1746, and the present-day church from 1777–1778. The two buildings also had different functions: one is a parish church, while the rectory was historically used as a summer residence for the abbots. The town’s history therefore offers several specific points of interest rather than just a single building.
Commemorative Plaques and the Jewish Cemetery
Commemorative plaques complement the historic sites with reliefs depicting the buildings and brief explanations for visitors. They are permanently installed in the pavement or in public squares. The first ten plaques, located at historically significant buildings, were ceremonially unveiled during a guided town tour. The reliefs and explanations thus link the depiction of a building with its history in the public realm.
About 20 gravestones or fragments of gravestones remain in the Jewish cemetery. The oldest legible gravestone, whose discovery was documented in the 1930s, came from this cemetery and was dated 1543. It was later lost and is therefore part of the historical record, not the surviving collection. To understand the cemetery’s history, it is worth distinguishing this historical trace from the stones that remain today.
Cycle Path Between Město Touškov and Bdeněves
Opened in May 2026, the cycle path connects Město Touškov and Bdeněves, links to Cycle Route No. 37, and is fully lit. It runs through the countryside along the Mže. This gives you several specific features: a connection between two towns, a link to a numbered cycle route, a scenic setting and lighting. For choosing your destination, this is a different focus from the individual historic sites in town.
Recreation by the Pond
The recreation area by the pond has fitness equipment for adults, two large trampolines for children and teenagers, and an agility course. This describes another specific activity alongside the town’s history and cycle route. If you plan to include any of these facilities in your itinerary, check their current condition before visiting.
