Lochousice: Chapel, village square and farmsteads
Accommodation in Lochousice
Lochousice combines a distinctive village setting with a history stretching back to prehistoric times. The Chapel of St. Florian stands at the centre of the village square; farmsteads with masonry buildings line the square, and two ponds lie on the Touškovský potok. This gives you several concrete points of interest when choosing a destination: a chapel with a clearly described architectural form, farm buildings with special details, and a local history that encompasses archaeological and written records from different periods.
Chapel, village square and farmsteads
The large masonry Chapel of St. Florian stands at the centre of the village square and dates from 1847. Its rectangular nave and projecting two-storey tower define its architectural form. The year places the building in its historical context; the nave and tower give an idea of its design. The chapel and its enclosed plot are protected.
Numerous farmsteads with masonry buildings line the village square and are designed in the late Neoclassical style. Many still retain large parts of their gates, masonry granaries or elaborately decorated façades on the residential buildings. These details are therefore found not just on a single farmstead, but on many of the farm complexes that shape the square. Barns are located at the outer edge of the village, at the rear of the farmyards and away from the other buildings. The different arrangement of the buildings also reveals the layout of the farmyards.
Local history and landscape
The area around Lochousice was already inhabited in prehistoric times, as numerous archaeological finds attest. Lochousice is first mentioned in 1186. These represent two distinct time horizons: prehistoric settlement and the first mention in a written source. Historically, Lochousice was owned by Kladruby Monastery. These details offer different insights into the history of the village, from its early settlement to its later ownership history.
Lochousice lies 6.5 kilometres northwest of Stod, in flat to gently sloping terrain. Distance and direction help you get your bearings, while the description of the terrain characterises the surrounding area. The Touškovský potok flows through Lochousice. Two ponds lie right on the village square, next to the stream. The ponds and the village square thus form a single spatial unit, while the barns at the outer edge and behind the other farm buildings mark a different part of the village layout.
