Educational trails, cycling routes, historical traces and local traditions come together in Kornatice. These different highlights can help you plan your trip: one trail offers insights into the historic cultural landscape, while another is designed as an easy circular walk with stops and activities. There are also historic buildings and landscape features, as well as recurring festivals.

Educational Trails and Cycling Route

The F. X. France educational trail introduces visitors to prehistoric and medieval remains in the former cultural landscape. It includes a preserved section of a medieval wagon road. The trail was extended in 2013 and has ended in Kornatice, at Kornatice railway station, ever since. Boardwalks and rest areas are also part of its described infrastructure. These details offer various points of reference if you are interested in trails with a historical connection.

The “Okolím Kornatic” environmental trail has a different focus. It starts at the cultural centre in Kornatice and is intended as an easy circular walk that takes relatively little time, especially for families with children. Eight stops, information boards and practical activities shape the route. Unlike the F. X. France educational trail, which focuses on prehistoric and medieval remains, this trail centres on a manageable walk with stops.

Cyclists will also find a named route through Kornatice: marked cycle route 2039 runs from Šťáhlavy via Kornatice, Mešno and Lipnice to Spálené Poříčí. A link between two cycle routes also passes directly through the village. This gives you information for planning both a themed walk and a longer cycling route; you can choose a specific tour based on the type of route that interests you.

Village History and Traces in the Surrounding Area

The chapel is the oldest building in the village; its exact age has not yet been determined. Together with the memorial to the local residents who fell in the First World War, it is surrounded by hundred-year-old lime trees. Veský rybník lies right on the edge of Kornatice and adds a connection to the landscape to these local landmarks.

A 130-metre section of the historic access road to Lopata Castle survives in the area around Kornatice. The remains of the medieval village of Javor are also nearby. They appear as slightly raised, hill-like structures and shallow depressions near small water reservoirs. These traces differ from the chapel and memorial in the village: they point to earlier settlement patterns and routes in the surrounding area.

Festivals and Local Traditions

Every year, the municipality organises Masopust together with Sdružení pro Kornatice. During the event, a masked procession accompanied by music moves through the village and visits homes. The mayor is asked for permission beforehand. The tradition thus combines the procession with visits to homes and a set starting point.

Slet čarodějnic takes place every year on 30 April. The programme includes a costumed procession through the village, a ritual by the bonfire and refreshments. If you would like to plan your trip around this date, check the specific event details before your visit.

The municipality also holds Kornatické slavnosti every year. Exhibitions change at Slavnosti léta, and some are offered for sale. The programme also includes displays of historic bicycles with participants in period costumes. These festival details offer a different way to experience Kornatice from its educational trails and archaeological traces. When planning your trip, you can therefore decide whether you would rather focus on trails and historical remains or on one of the local traditions.
