Dlouhý Újezd lies on the edge of the Český les Protected Landscape Area. West of the village, the forest area is part of the Český les Nature Park. These refer to different areas: the boundary of the protected landscape area concerns the village’s location, while the nature park covers the forest area to its west. To understand the landscape’s geography, it is worth keeping these two areas distinct.

Landscape to the west and south

South of the village, on the road to Žebráky, lies the Mechové rybníky group. It includes interesting wetlands and a landscape area rich in flowers. This adds another natural feature south of the village to the forest area in the west. If you are interested in wetlands or flower-rich landscapes, Mechové rybníky is a named destination to consider when planning your trip.

Cycling route and winter activities

Marked cycling route No. 2172 runs through Dlouhý Újezd. If cycling is part of your plans, it provides a specific route through the village. The Goldsteig CZ 16 first leads to Dlouhý Újezd and then on to Tachov. Before setting off, check the current route markings and conditions, as these can change. The distinction matters when choosing a route: No. 2172 runs through the village; the Goldsteig CZ 16 leads to Dlouhý Újezd and then on to Tachov.

The local terrain is suitable for cross-country skiing in winter. This seasonal option offers a different focus from a cycling trip. Check current conditions for your planned dates before adding cross-country skiing to your travel plans.

Local history and historic sites

Dlouhý Újezd is first mentioned in 1361 under the name “Langendorfflein”. A former fortress in Dlouhý Újezd was probably modified and eventually converted into a château. The village’s history can therefore also be explored through the development of its former buildings.

The site of the former château has completely disappeared beneath newer buildings and is no longer identifiable. The château’s history is part of the village’s historical context; this does not mean that a visible château site remains.

The Jewish cemetery west of Dlouhý Újezd preserves about 250 tombstones. The oldest dates from 1736. Its Baroque and Neoclassical tombstones make the cemetery historically valuable and give it a distinct connection to local history.

The cemetery can be reached via a field path that starts at the last houses on the southeastern edge of the village and leads south through the forest. Check access locally before your visit.

A small chapel can also be seen beside the road toward Tachov. It is another local point of interest, alongside the landscape and history.
