When planning a stay in Bělá nad Radbuzou, you can consider its architectural history, views, and landscape separately. The different points of interest include historic buildings, the Pohořelec viewpoint, and paths through the wooded surroundings. The town lies at the confluence of the Radbuza and Bezděkovský potok rivers. This means there are both specific sights and landscape experiences, each of which can be approached as a separate theme for a visit.

Panorama from Pohořelec

The Pohořelec viewpoint is on the hill of the same name, at 524 metres above sea level. From there, you can enjoy views of the southwestern panorama of the border mountains: in the Bohemian Forest are Ostrý and Velký Javor; the visible peaks also include Čerchov, Velký Zvon, and Přimda. If you would like to identify the view by individual mountain names, these prominent landmarks provide specific points of reference. From the town square in Bělá nad Radbuzou, the path leads towards Bor; the final section runs along a path through a meadow. Confirm the route locally before setting out.

Bridge and fortress: architectural history on site

The Baroque Bridge over the Radbuza was probably built between 1723 and 1725, modelled on Prague’s Charles Bridge. Six Baroque statues of saints adorn the structure. The bridge is used by pedestrians and cyclists. Its date, model, and figures offer several specific details to observe: in addition to its Baroque design, its connection to the well-known Prague bridge also stands out. The bridge can thus be appreciated through its form, statues, and role for pedestrians and cyclists.

Bělá Fortress was built around 1614 by Wolf Josef Lamingen von Albenreuth in the Renaissance style. It is protected as a cultural monument; the designation was made by the Czech Ministry of Culture. Its former use is also part of its history: after the fortress ceased to serve as the manor lord’s residence, it was used as accommodation for administrative staff. The reconstructed fortress houses, among other things, an information centre. If you plan to visit it, confirm current visitor access in advance.

Church history and inscriptions

The Church of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows originated as a chapel built in Bělá in 1696–1697 and later enlarged. After a fire in 1826, the church was rebuilt and expanded. This sequence comprises two distinct phases of construction: the earlier chapel and its later extension, followed by the rebuilding after the fire. This makes it possible to place the building’s development in its historical context without treating the chapel and the later church as one and the same.

The Kocovy kameny near Bělá nad Radbuzou offer a different kind of historical trace. These prominent stone cultural monuments consist of rocks bearing inscriptions by merry hunting parties. Rather than a single building, the focus here is on the rocks and their inscriptions. They thus complement the architecture of the bridge, fortress, and church with a distinct perspective on the area’s cultural monuments.

Nature trail and cycling routes in the surrounding area

The nature trail in Bělá nad Radbuzou passes through part of the scenic landscape above the Radbuza valley. It therefore offers a different perspective from the Pohořelec viewpoint: there, the view takes in a panorama with named peaks, while the nature trail runs through a section of landscape above the valley. Check trail conditions locally before planning your walk.

Cycling routes in the area around Bělá nad Radbuzou also pass through wooded terrain with almost untouched nature. For planning purposes, the options differ mainly in the kind of experience they offer: the nature trail passes through the landscape above the Radbuza valley, while the cycling routes run through forested areas in the wider surroundings. As routes can change, check your planned cycling route in advance. This lets you consider the viewpoint, buildings, and activities in the surrounding area as distinct focal points for your stay.
