In Tetov’s village square, there is a cross with a niche of the Virgin Mary and a wooden bell tower. The village is also home to a monument to President Masaryk and the residents who fell in the First and Second World Wars. A hunting lodge ensemble on the edge of the forest adds to these architectural and historical points of interest; at the same time, Tetov’s forests attract hikers, cyclists and mushroom pickers. Local history, architecture and the surrounding forest give your stay several specific themes to explore.

Local History of Tetov

Tetov was founded in 1791 by Jan Oktavián Kinský, who came from the Chlumec nad Cidlinou estate. The village’s name also reflects this history: it derives from the names of the estate’s owners. Later, Tetov belonged to the municipal association of the political municipality of Kundratice; its separation was approved in 1937. The local history therefore encompasses both the village’s founding and a later change in its municipal affiliation. The two dates mark different periods between the late 18th and 20th centuries.

Village Square and Memorial Sites

The cross in the village square has a niche of the Virgin Mary; the wooden bell tower also stands there. The two features of the square differ in form: a cross with a specific niche dedicated to Mary and a wooden tower. A separate monument in Tetov commemorates President Masaryk and the residents who fell in the First and Second World Wars. It brings together remembrance of a political figure and of those who fell in both world wars.

Tetov’s local memorials stand alongside one another: the religious motif of the cross, the bell tower, and the commemoration of Masaryk and those killed in the wars. For the village’s history, it is important that the monument names both world wars, not just one historical period.

The Hunting Lodge Ensemble on the Edge of the Forest

The small hunting lodge ensemble is located on the edge of the forest. It consists of a single-storey, rectangular forester’s lodge and an elongated outbuilding with stables, which stands opposite the lodge. Together, the two buildings enclose a small courtyard. Their arrangement gives the complex a clear layout: the forester’s lodge, the outbuilding opposite it and the courtyard between them form a unified whole. The ensemble can therefore be understood as a group of different buildings with a shared inner space, rather than as just the forester’s lodge on its own.

The ensemble’s architectural classification also makes it interesting for anyone looking at Tetov’s building history. It is considered an architecturally distinguished example of building development in Eastern Bohemia and a clear typological example from around 1920. The specific courtyard layout and this regional classification complement each other: the described building forms shape the ensemble’s appearance, while it also represents a particular phase of building development in Eastern Bohemia.

Forests and Landscape

Tetov’s forests attract hikers, cyclists and mushroom pickers. The forest offers different points of interest for travellers who enjoy walking, cycling or picking mushrooms. These activities all take place in the same landscape, but each brings a different focus to travel planning.

Another point of interest in the landscape is the boundary of a landscape conservation and heritage zone. It begins in Tetov on the south side of the road from Hlavečník to Tetov. Its location along a named stretch of road makes the boundary’s course spatially specific and adds an aspect of landscape history to the built heritage.

Local Events

Local events in Tetov include the witches’ bonfire, a children’s day, raising the maypole, and Christmas workshops for children and adults. The events mentioned range from a festive bonfire and the maypole to workshops held around Christmas; the workshops are for both children and adults. If you would like to combine your stay with one of these events, check the date in advance.
