Urbanice: Cycling Route and Local History
Accommodation in Urbanice
Urbanice combines a marked cycling route with local history and events. You can plan your trip around a range of interests: cycling, historical topics or the timing of local events.
Landscape and cycling route
Urbanice lies among forests and ponds in the foothills of the Železné hory. Forests cover almost two-thirds of the cadastral area. As a result, the municipality’s landscape is characterized by a high proportion of forest. This rural setting complements the more specific information about the cycling route, local history and events as you plan your trip.
Marked cycling route No. 4129 passes through Urbanice in the direction of Choltice and Jetonice. Within the municipality, it follows local roads and, in part, a Class III road. The place names indicate the directions; the road description explains the route within the municipality. When considering a cycling-themed stay in Urbanice, you can therefore take direction and road type into account as separate aspects.
Getting there by train
No railway line runs through Urbanice. The nearest railway station in use for Urbanice is in Přelouč. For travel by train, that station is the main point of reference; check which connection is suitable for your travel date. You can plan your choice of destination and your train connection as two separate steps.
Local history and traditions
After 1467, the fortress located in Urbanice gradually fell into disrepair. Its owner did not live there because he had many other estates. This account provides a historical timeframe and a specific reason for the owner’s absence, complementing the landscape and cycling route with a historical perspective.
In the 19th century, Urbanice traditionally held the festival “otvírání studánek” (“opening of the springs”), featuring a procession of young people to “Konárecká.” Unlike the history of the fortress, this tradition centers on a community celebration and procession. The historical topics differ in both period and nature: on the one hand, the gradual decline of a building; on the other, a local festival tradition.
Sports and events
Volleyball has a more than fifty-year tradition in Urbanice. The children’s competition afternoon “Rozloučení s prázdninami” (“Farewell to the Holidays”) is held every year; “Mikulášská nadílka” (St. Nicholas celebration) also takes place in winter. The cycling route is also frequently used, especially during the summer months. These offer different points of reference when choosing when to travel: particularly high route use in summer, an annual children’s afternoon and a winter event. Volleyball and the children’s competition afternoon are two distinct sports-related activities: the tradition describes a long-standing development, while the children’s afternoon is an annual event. As you plan your trip, you can check the dates of the children’s afternoon and the winter event.
