Brloh offers several distinct themes to consider when planning your trip: a geological educational trail, the disused quarry and terrain remains of a fortress site. At the quarry, the focus is on a geological transition between rock types and visible evidence of prehistoric times; the remains of the fortress site offer a separate connection to the history of the place. Geology, prehistoric times and historical settlement remains each have a specific point of interest here.

Quarry and geological educational trail

The Brloh quarry lies on the southwestern edge of Brloh, in the valley of the Brložský potok, about 50 metres west of the built-up area. It is more than 250 metres from the road and can be reached across trackless terrain. Take both details into account when planning your visit, and check the conditions beforehand.

At the viewpoint above the quarry face, the sequence transitions from quartz sandstone to quartzite and then to conglomeratic sandstone. This rock contains worked quartz and lydite pebbles up to 1.5 centimetres in size. The transition describes the sequence at the outcrop, while the pebbles are a specific feature of the conglomerate. When examining the geology, you can distinguish the sequence of rock types from the individual components.

The quarry is part of a geological educational trail that depicts the history of the Earth. The specific transition between rock types at the viewpoint is therefore part of the trail’s wider context. Evidence of prehistoric times is also visible on rock blocks and rock faces in the disused quarry. The quarry brings together a specific geological finding and a broader view of Earth’s history as distinct themes.

The Brložský potok flows through Brloh and empties into the Elbe. Together with the quarry’s location in the valley of this stream, this connects the precise description of the site with a watercourse that extends beyond Brloh. The river’s course thus adds a second geographical reference to the quarry’s location in the valley: from the local stream in the village to its mouth in the Elbe.

Terrain remains and local history

The terrain remains of the acropolis of a little-known fortress site also form part of the local history. They are preserved near a pond; the site is built over by House No. 27. Parts of the remains have been incorporated into later private buildings. The pond and the buildings offer different points of reference: the pond helps locate the remains, while House No. 27 marks the site’s built context.

The Brložský Trilobit

The Brložský Trilobit is a recurring local event: 2016 was its second edition, and 2026 its twelfth. A trail walk from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. was scheduled as the opening event for August 29, 2026; themed workshops were also planned. The date has now passed, and the time and workshops refer to that edition. If you would like to include a later edition in your trip, check its specific dates.
