Stéblová: Village History and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Stéblová
In Stéblová, rail connections, marked trails, local history, and Obecní rybník come together in different ways. For planning your trip, the main things to consider are how the hiking trails differ and which historic sites and events can shape your stay.
Rail Connections and Hiking Trails
Stéblová has rail connections toward Pardubice and Hradec Králové. For your specific journey, it is worth checking the timetable for your travel date. The Okruh Stéblová loop trail starts at Stéblová railway station. A sandy forest path continues just beyond the road; the yellow-marked KČT hiking trail leads back to the station.
Another option is a yellow-marked hiking trail from Stéblová railway halt to Kunětická hora. The approach is about 8 km long. The two trails therefore differ mainly in their route and destination: the Okruh returns to the station, while the other trail leads to Kunětická hora. You can choose between a loop that returns to the station and the approach to Kunětická hora.
Village Square and Local History
A sandstone cross stands at the southern end of the village square. It was erected in 1899 to mark the 50th anniversary of Emperor Franz Joseph I’s reign. A fire station with a small bell tower stands right next to the cross. The village square thus brings together a historic memorial and another distinctive architectural feature.
The village’s history dates back to the rebuilding of Stéblová in 1549. The village was rebuilt immediately below the southeastern edge of the side embankment of the Oplatil fishpond. There is another historical marker by the railway station: the monument there commemorates the 1960 railway accident and was restored in 2000. The village square and railway station offer different points of interest if you are interested in local history. The village’s history also includes its former location as well as its rebuilding in 1549: the original settlement was flooded, and the Oplatil fishpond is associated with this flooding.
Obecní rybník and Local Events
Obecní rybník in Stéblová was revitalized in 2022–2023. A viewing and relaxation pier, access steps, and an access ramp were added. This specific infrastructure makes the pond a local point of interest distinct from the historic markers in the village square and by the railway station.
The traditional Stéblovský pohár fire-sports competition is held around the turn of July and August. Check the dates for the current edition before your trip. This way, you can plan your stay around a hike, the historic sites, or—if the timing works out—this local event.
