Horní Ředice: History, Landscape and Leisure
Accommodation in Horní Ředice
If you are looking for a hotel in Horní Ředice, you can plan your stay around local history, the landscape or leisure activities. The Church of St. Wenceslas and its wooden bell tower offer a glimpse into the town’s history; the Hořánka hill provides views of the surrounding area. There are also municipal sports and leisure facilities. When planning your trip, consider which of these aspects of the town interests you most.
The Church of St. Wenceslas and local history
The present-day Church of St. Wenceslas was consecrated on 28 September 1863. It served both Horní Ředice and Dolní Ředice; the two municipalities contributed equally to its construction. Together with the wooden bell tower, the church dominates the surrounding area. The church cemetery has a bell tower with three bells. The largest dates from 1616. Remains of the cemetery’s former fortifications are visible on its western side.
The chapel in Horní Ředice is also part of local history. It dates from 1836 and was relocated within the municipality. In 2003, the Lubomír Váša restoration studio reconstructed the chapel. Another historical feature is the Ředice archaeological burial ground: its finds include vessels and other objects dating to the Bronze Age. Horní Ředice thus brings together architectural history and archaeological traces from different periods.
Hořánka, views and nearby nature
Hořaník is the eastern summit of the Hořánka hill and stands at an elevation of 265 metres. From there, views extend across the Loučná valley and as far as the Železné hory. A field path leads from the Church of St. Wenceslas, over Farský kopec, to Hořánka hill. This makes it possible to include local history and the landscape in the same trip plan. Conditions on the field path may vary.
The nearby Žernov Nature Reserve lies north of Horní Ředice. The protected area includes ponds, reed beds and wet meadows. It is a nearby natural area with a character distinct from that of the hill and town centre. If you are planning your trip around the landscape, you can take these differences into account.
Sports and leisure in the town
Horní Ředice has two sand tennis courts. Tennis tournaments and a summer tennis school are held there regularly. The reconstructed mini-golf course is near the community hall; its 13 holes are set beside a stream with seating along its banks. Those wishing to compare different options for physical activity can also find a multi-purpose sports court near the primary school. It can be used for floorball, nohejbal, tennis, volleyball and many other ball sports. Tennis is therefore available both on the facilities specifically described as sand courts and as one of the possible uses of the multi-purpose sports court.
In the Blanka area, there is a 180-metre running track and a 60-metre straight track with a long-jump facility. Two exercise machines and seating for walkers are located on the dam of Ředický rybník. The facilities differ in what they offer, from a running track and ball sports to exercise equipment by the pond. If you plan to use a specific municipal leisure facility, check its availability before your trip.
The Prvomájový cyklovýlet (May Day Cycling Tour) is also part of Horní Ředice’s events calendar. This recurring event takes place on 1 May. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the date for the relevant year in advance.
