Horní Heřmanice: Baroque Church and Folk Architecture
Accommodation in Horní Heřmanice
Horní Heřmanice brings together sacred buildings and regional folk architecture with marked cycling and hiking routes.
Sacred Buildings and Art
The church complex, including the cemetery gate and chapel, is a protected monument. At its heart is the Church of St. George, a protected single-nave Baroque monument dating from 1708 to 1712. It was built by the Italian master builder Antonio Sala.
A baptismal font dating from 1749 features a carving of the Baptism of Christ in the Jordan; the main altar holds a replica of the pilgrimage image Chrudimský Salvátor. The charnel house is a protected immovable cultural monument. Near the church and the rectory stands a statue of St. John of Nepomuk, created in 1767. The late Baroque crucifix in the sacred precinct dates from 1788.
Folk Architecture and Building History
The old wooden water mill No. 103 is an example of folk architecture in the Lanškroun area. Ferdinand Dittrich built it in 1748; he was the brother of Heřmanice’s first parish priest. The mill is considered an important example of regional folk architecture. Together with the well-maintained wooden chalets, it reflects local building styles.
Country house No. 85 is a copy of an example of the foothill log-house architecture of the Lanškroun area, originally dating from 1792. The original had a decorated gable. After being damaged in 2006, the building was reconstructed as a copy of the original house.
Cycling and Hiking Routes
Two marked cycling routes pass through the town. CT 4225 runs from Tatenice via Horní Heřmanice to Výprachtice; CT 4253 runs from Čenkovice via Horní Heřmanice to Verměřovice. Their starting and finishing points distinguish the two routes: Tatenice–Výprachtice for CT 4225, and Čenkovice–Verměřovice for CT 4253. Check the route signage and conditions before setting out.
The green-marked Lázek–Horní Heřmanice–Buková hora hiking route passes through the town. It is distinct from the ridge trail through the Bukovohorské Mountains, which runs through the upper part of Horní Heřmanice and offers year-round views of Bohemia and the Moravian side. You can choose between a green-marked route through the town and the ridge route with its views. As route conditions may vary seasonally, check them before hiking.
The I/43 road also passes through Horní Heřmanice, connecting Lanškroun and Štíty.
Winter Activities
A municipal notice updated on February 5, 2026, mentions a 1 km cross-country ski trail near the sports field. Weather and snow permitting, it is groomed twice a week. Before a winter trip, check whether conditions allow it to be groomed.
The small ski lift in the center is especially suitable for young people; check before your trip whether it is operating for the season.
