Vrchoslavice combines traces of local history with Lopaťák and recurring events. There are several themes to consider when planning your trip: churches and memorials, nature and cycling or inline skating, or a date in the events calendar. What you choose to focus on during your stay depends on whether you are more interested in history, the waterscape or events.

Churches and memorials

The Church of St. Michael in Vrchoslavice preserves valuable Renaissance tombstones. The Church of St. Michael complex is listed as an immovable cultural monument and is to be protected and preserved. This highlights two aspects of the site: the tombstones as evidence of the Renaissance and the protection of the church complex as a whole.

In Dlouhá Ves, the chapel dates from after 1867. Since 2014, a Mass accompanied by a small pilgrimage has been held there in May or June. If you would like to plan your trip around this celebration, check the specific date before you travel. This distinguishes the chapel as a historic landmark from the recurring event as a possible reason for your trip.

The obelisk was erected in 1855 by Jan and Františka Hrabčík in place of an earlier metal cross. Together with the chapel, it offers different points of reference in local history: the period after 1867 for the chapel and the specific year 1855 for the obelisk.

Lopaťák: Waterscape and cycling connection

Lopaťák consists of three interconnected water basins, whose function is primarily to shape the landscape. At the same time, they form part of the ecological stability system in a local biocentre and provide a habitat for aquatic animals. This dual function defines a nature-focused visit: the basins shape the landscape while also providing a habitat for aquatic animals.

A paved access road leads to Lopaťák and connects to the cycle path from Němčice nad Hanou to Vrchoslavice. The route is suitable for cyclists and inline skaters. This offers a different focus from the churches and memorials: the waterscape and a specific cycling or inline skating route can be incorporated into your day’s plans.

Events and dates to plan around

Every New Year’s Day, a gathering of residents from three municipalities takes place at Lopaťák. Regular and now traditional events in Zamlýní include Běh osvobození, hasičský úterek pro děti and Hodové soutěže. The Vrchoslavice parish organizes concerts, Corpus Christi celebrations, Noc kostelů and summer activities for children.

There are different dates to consider when choosing when to travel: the gathering at Lopaťák is linked to New Year’s Day, while the Mass at the chapel takes place in May or June. If you are planning a trip to attend one of these events, check the relevant date in advance. If you are not planning your trip around an event, the historic sites and Lopaťák offer other themes to focus on.
