Stražisko lies in a deeply incised valley of the Romže, which winds between the peaks of the Drahany Highlands. Historic religious buildings, the Zátiší villa colony and the Romže Cycle Path give the place its distinctive character. When choosing a destination for culture, landscapes, or a cycling and hiking route, you can consider these themes separately as you plan: the townscape tells the story of earlier centuries, while the Romže and its surroundings form the geographical setting.

Landscape and location

The most prominent hill near Stražisko rises to 385 metres, directly above the Romže and the road that runs past it. Here, the river winds through a narrow valley between the peaks of the Drahany Highlands. This combination of valley, river and ridge describes the landscape in which the town lies. It offers a different perspective for finding your way around than the individual buildings in the townscape: Stražisko is defined not only by its sights, but also by its location on the Romže.

Churches, the Stations of the Cross and historic buildings

The Church of the Guardian Angels was built in 1728 in the centre of Stražisko, on the site of the former Grünberg Castle. Together with the Stations of the Cross, it is protected as an immovable cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The Stations of the Cross were created in 1854 and consist of 14 large masonry niche chapels. They contain images painted on sheet metal by Prostějov painter Josef Vyjídáček, who worked as a bricklayer. A Lourdes grotto was added in 1895. The Stations of the Cross thus combine religious design with several architectural features and a history of their own.

Another religious building stands in the district of Růžov: the Chapel of St. Gotthard is located in its centre and is also a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The locations and forms of the buildings therefore differ depending on what you wish to explore more closely in Stražisko: the church and Stations of the Cross in the main settlement are followed by the chapel in the district of Růžov. Both add to the history of the former castle site, without being the same building or located in the same district.

Villas and Art Nouveau

Stražisko’s architectural history includes the Zátiší villa colony and other Art Nouveau villas. The surviving buildings are richly decorated with carvings and date from around the turn of the 20th century. This adds a different form of architectural heritage alongside the religious buildings: the villas are described through their preserved façades and carved details, while the church and Stations of the Cross are notable for their religious use and protected monument status.

The Romže Cycle Path and the railway

The Romže Cycle Path was completed in 2025 and connects Konice with Stražisko. From Stražisko, it continues via Ptenský Dvorek, Ptení, Bělecký Mlýn and Kostelec na Hané to Prostějov. The path makes Stražisko more accessible to cyclists and hikers. The sequence of named places helps put the route in context: Konice is on the connecting side of the route, while the section from Stražisko passes through several other places on its way to Prostějov.

Outdoor swimming pool and events

The outdoor swimming pool in Stražisko was built in 1973 with a 50-metre pool and completely reconstructed in 2011. Sports events are held on the pool grounds. The chronology is important: the pool and its construction are part of the facility’s history, while the reconstruction came later. The venue also hosts events beyond its swimming offer.

The traditional Hody festivities include a Hodová exhibition prepared by the women of Stražisko. If you are planning your stay around a specific date, check the event dates before travelling. This helps distinguish the place’s year-round attractions—architecture, landscape and the cycle path—from time-specific events.
