Velké Vrbno: Views, trails and winter sports
Accommodation in Velké Vrbno
Velké Vrbno offers several points of interest for planning a trip: a stone observation tower, marked trails and winter sports. The history of the Chapel of Saint Christopher and the Paprsek mountain lodge are also part of the local story.
The observation tower on Větrov
Dalimilova rozhledna is a stone observation tower on the summit of Větrov. It is a faithful replica of the historic Kaiser Wilhelm Tower, which stood on Sněžník from 1899 to 1973. A visit therefore combines a specific summit location with the history of its historical counterpart.
The tower is accessible only on foot. From the car park in Velké Vrbno at the valley station of the lift to Paprsek, it is another 1.5 km on foot. Allow time for this stretch from the stated car park, and check the parking and trail conditions in advance, as they may change.
The chapel and the history of Paprsek
The Chapel of Saint Christopher was built in 2009 to replace a chapel that had been demolished in Velké Vrbno. It stands right next to the Paprsek mountain hotel, which is located where Hrubý Jeseník, Rychlebské hory and Králický Sněžník meet. The chapel was consecrated on 26 September 2009, together with a bell dating from 1925. The bell comes from the now-vanished settlement of Grund Messinghammer.
The Paprsek mountain lodge was built in 1932 in the cadastral area of Velké Vrbno. It was originally called “Slezský Dům” (Schlesierhaus). The year it was built and its former name give the lodge two specific historical points of reference.
Marked trails in Velké Vrbno and near Paprsek
The yellow-marked trail passes through Velké Vrbno to the Medvědí rokle valley. Three marked hiking trails meet near the Paprsek mountain lodge. This gives you two different reference points for choosing a route: a named destination valley and a place where several marked trails meet. Trail conditions may vary; check them before your outing.
Lift and winter sports at Paprsek
The chairlift takes visitors to the Paprsek mountain lodge; its operation is seasonal and weather-dependent. The Snowpark Paprsek-Olšanka “Kaskáda” in Velké Vrbno offers a total of 4.5 km of ski runs, groomed with a snowcat, as well as evening skiing. The lift takes you to the lodge, while the observation tower is accessible only on foot. Operating details may change. Check the latest information in advance, especially if you plan to take the chairlift or go evening skiing.
The Milíře cross-country skiing loop also includes the Velké Vrbno lift station. Separately, the operator of the Paprsek lodge regularly grooms around 30 km of cross-country ski trails. Grooming varies with winter conditions and may therefore affect your plans for a day of cross-country skiing.
