You can plan a visit to Nýdek around various interests: the Rytířská educational trail starts in the village square and is almost 10 km long; the Čantoryje Nature Reserve and Velká Čantoryje offer further natural landmarks. Dřeviónka, the Church of St. Nicholas and recurring events add culture and local life. If you are looking for hotels in Nýdek, first decide whether hiking, a cultural theme or a particular event date should be the focus of your trip.

Hiking, views and elevation

The Rytířská educational trail starts in Nýdek’s square and is almost 10 km long. Its starting point and length provide two concrete reference points for planning your day: the trail begins in the village and can be included as a separate activity. One of the trail’s stops is near the Čantoryje Nature Reserve. The Čantoryje National Nature Reserve covers 40 ha.

The Čantoryje observation tower is located on the state border between Czechia and Poland. At 995 m, Velká Čantoryje is the highest point in the municipality of Nýdek. The tower’s position on the border and the mountain’s elevation highlight different aspects: you can decide whether you would rather focus on its border location or on the municipality’s highest point as a natural landmark.

Museum and local history

Dřeviónka is a replica of an original farmhouse and houses a small museum documenting local life at the turn of the 20th century. There is also a permanent exhibition on Nýdek’s industrial history. These bring together two distinct perspectives: local life during a specific historical period and industrial history as a separate exhibition theme. If you are planning a cultural visit, you can choose between this picture of everyday life in the past and the thematic focus on industry.

The Church of St. Nicholas in Nýdek dates from 1576. In contrast to the museum’s focus on the turn of the 20th century, this date takes you much further back in time. The cultural themes mentioned therefore span both a connection to the 16th century and accounts of later local life and industrial history.

Events as a reason to travel

The traditional Krmáš takes place every year in October. The BIERFEST is held on the third Saturday in July in Nýdek’s square; visitors can sample around ten types of beer and numerous local specialties. This gives you two different times to plan your trip around: the October date of the Krmáš or the precisely specified Saturday in July when the BIERFEST takes place.

If you are travelling specifically for an event, check the exact date before booking. This will help you arrange your travel dates around the festival you want to attend.
