Discover Sedliště Ve Slezsku
Accommodation in Sedliště Ve Slezsku
Sedliště Ve Slezsku can be explored through three distinct themes: the wooden Church of All Saints, local history at the Muzeum Lašská jizba, and views towards Ostrava from Bezručova vyhlídka. If you are planning a stay, you can choose your priorities based on whether you are especially interested in wooden architecture, local cultural history or the landscape. When planning a church visit, it is also important to distinguish between the exterior, which is accessible year-round, and the interior, which is accessible seasonally.
The wooden Church of All Saints
The wooden Church of All Saints was built in 1638 on the site of an older wooden church dating from 1447. The two dates therefore refer to different building phases at the same location: 1447 marks the earlier structure, and 1638 the later one. This sequence is a good starting point for understanding the church’s history. In the Těšín region, it is one of the best-preserved and oldest wooden churches. A covered gallery known as the “sobota” runs around the building. It completely surrounds the church and is a distinctive feature of its design. When visiting, you can therefore take in the surrounding gallery as well as the building dates.
The exterior of the church is accessible year-round. You can visit the interior outside of liturgical services as part of the “Otevřené chrámy” project from June to October. If the interior is important to you, plan your visit for this period and check the access arrangements before you go. Seasonal access to the interior and year-round access to the exterior offer different ways to explore the church.
Views and cycling
Bezručova vyhlídka is located at the summit of Černá zem hill, 374 m above sea level. From there, you can enjoy a view of the Ostrava area. There is a car park at the viewpoint with space for about 20 cars. The “Za dřevěnými unikáty Česka” cycling trip takes you to the wooden Church of All Saints in Sedliště and continues to Bezručova vyhlídka. The route thus connects two different points of interest: the church’s history and architecture, and the view from the hill. If you are interested in a cycling trip, this sequence provides a practical framework for choosing your stops.
Local history at the Muzeum Lašská jizba
The Muzeum Lašská jizba presents an ethnographic and historical exhibition about the history of Sedliště and local associations. The museum also includes a historical library focusing on Lašsko culture. Here, the focus is on the history of the village and its associations, while the wooden church offers a perspective on building history and architecture. The library adds its own regional focus to the exhibition. When choosing cultural subjects to explore during your stay, you can distinguish between the history of the village, Lašsko culture and historic wooden construction.
