Neutitschein (Nový Jičín) offers several different focal points for a stay: the historic town centre, buildings with their own stories and an easy cycling route. If you are looking for a hotel in Neutitschein, you can start by considering which of these aspects you want to shape your trip. The town’s history can be explored both through the layout of the centre and through individual buildings; the Cyklostezka “Koleje” offers a different focus.

Historic Town Centre and Arcades

The Městská památková rezervace Nový Jičín preserves historic plots, the character of the built environment, traditional layouts and historic structures in the town’s historic centre. The connecting arcades are also among its defining features. The square is square in shape; the adjoining streets form a right-angled grid. Together, this urban layout reflects the town’s founding period under Přemysl Otakar II. The historic core within the conservation area is one of the most original and authentic examples of a Renaissance-Baroque town with preserved medieval urban planning. On a walk around the town, you can therefore look out for two aspects: the preserved medieval urban layout and the Renaissance-Baroque character of the town centre.

Towers, Villas and Town History

One prominent building is the Renaissance prism-shaped tower of the Kostelní věž farního chrámu Nanebevzetí Panny Marie. It was built at the end of the 16th century and is 66 metres high, including the dome. The stated height therefore includes not only the tower but also its dome. The Hückelovy vily offer a different architectural impression: they include a pair of mirror-image villas, built between 1880 and 1882 to designs by the Viennese architect Otto Thienemann. The pair and the public park around it offer different aspects for visitors. The park gives visitors a route from Revoluční Street to Lesopark Skalky; this route runs through the park and does not describe access to the villas.

Laudonův dům also links a specific place with the town’s history. Austrian Field Marshal Ernst Gideon von Laudon died in this house in 1790. Since 2011, the building has housed the Návštěvnické centrum Nový Jičín. There, children and adults can play Laudoncaching, a variation on geocaching. Žerotínský zámek tells a different institutional story: after 1945, it became the seat of the Muzeum Novojičínska. The museum has a collection of hats and headwear that is considered unique in Europe.

Visitor Facilities

The Návštěvnické centrum Nový Jičín is fully accessible. There is a ramp at the main entrance; an elevator in the rear part of the building is available for people with reduced mobility and visitors with pushchairs. These specific facilities may be useful for planning your visit if you intend to include the visitor centre.

An Easy Cycling Route as a Different Focus

The Cyklostezka “Koleje” is an easy cycling route with only gentle climbs, making it suitable for families with children too. This gives cycling a clear distinction from a stay focused mainly on the historic urban layout, individual buildings or museum subjects. If you would like to include cycling in your trip, the route offers a separate way to give your stay a different focus.

Finding a Hotel to Match Your Trip

These focal points give your trip a clear direction without treating the town’s cultural and active sides as one and the same.
