Nové Heřminovy: Nature, Cycling Routes and Local History
Accommodation in Nové Heřminovy
Nové Heřminovy lies in a valley along the Opava River. The landscape, protected nature, cycling routes and two distinct routes on an educational trail provide concrete points of reference when choosing a destination. A historic structure and a viewpoint also add their own highlights.
Valley and Protected Forests
The Opava River and the valley shape the location of the village. Another connection with nature is the Ptačí hora area. At its heart is the Ptačí hora National Natural Monument, which protects natural submontane beech and beech-fir forests, including a share of original Jeseníky larches (Larix decidua).
The Ptačí hora area lies within the cadastral territory of Nové Heřminovy and covers 76.2730 ha. The riverside landscape and protected forest types describe two distinct aspects of the place: its location in the valley on the one hand, and the forests’ particular significance on the other. If you take nature-related interests into account when planning your trip, you can consider these separately.
Educational Trail: Local History or Natural Attractions
The “Naučná stezka Nové Heřminovy” educational trail consists of two routes that differ in length and theme. The village route is 1.5 km long and has seven stops covering the history and unique architecture of the municipality, including the former spa buildings. The second route runs through the area surrounding the municipality, is 6 km long and has five stops featuring local natural attractions.
The shorter route brings together local history and architecture, while the longer one focuses on natural attractions in the surrounding area. This lets you compare the two options not only by length but also by theme. Check local route conditions before setting out.
Compare Cycling Routes by Distance
Cycling Route No. 6161 runs from Lesní mlýn via Václavov u Bruntálu, Valšov, Mezina, Dlouhá Stráň, Milotice nad Opavou and Nové Heřminovy, continuing on to Čaková. It is 43.2 km long. Cycling Route No. 6162 is 26.3 km long, making it shorter than No. 6161. If route length is part of your planning, this comparison clearly distinguishes between the two routes mentioned. Check local route conditions before departure.
Historic Sights and a Viewpoint
Beside the Chapel of the Holy Trinity stands a stone cross dating from 1733. It offers a tangible point of historical interest in the village. The “Vyhlídka u Žanety” in Nové Heřminovy offers a view of Praděd and seating; check the condition of the facilities on site. The cross and viewpoint thus appeal to different interests: local history and views of the landscape.
