Jiříkov is located in the Sovinecko Nature Park. Cultural history, art and nature offer different highlights for your trip, including Sovinec Castle and its seasonal events program, galleries, churches, and marked hiking and cycling trails in the surrounding area. Which of these themes matters for your stay also depends on whether you are focusing on cultural sites, events, or traveling on foot or by bike.

Cultural History and Events

Sovinec Castle was built at the end of the 13th century and has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1958. From April to October, the castle hosts cultural events and welcomes visitors to various events each year. Dates for individual events may change, so check which dates fall within your travel period before your trip.

Film and music also provide distinct cultural connections. Jiříkov and its residents play a leading role in Bohdan Sláma’s film “Divoké včely.” Advent concerts are held in a church in Jiříkov; dates may vary. If Advent concerts are important to your trip, check the current dates.

Galleries and Churches

The former chapel in Křížov now serves as a gallery and souvenir shop called “Galerie v Kapli sv. Františka.” At the Pradědova Gallery, a local woodcarver exhibits carved sculptures. One figure there, the statue of the ruler of the Jeseníky Mountains, the forefather Praděd, is 10.4 meters tall and weighs 15 tons. The gallery grounds also include an 8-hectare fallow deer farm, which is especially suitable for children. This combines art with a family-friendly outing, without equating the gallery with the churches or the castle. Gallery opening hours and visitor arrangements, as well as on-site facilities, may change; check in advance what applies to your visit.

The churches also differ in their construction dates and current condition. The historicist church in Kněžpole was built in 1908–1909; compared with Sovinec Castle, built at the end of the 13th century, it represents a much later period of construction. The situation is different for the church in Těchanov: it has been out of operation for some time and is being damaged by damp. Its condition may change; if the church is relevant to your plans, check in advance.

Getting There and Planning
