Dolní Domaslavice: Reservoir and local history
Accommodation in Dolní Domaslavice
Dolní Domaslavice offers several specific starting points for planning a trip: the Žermanická přehrada reservoir with water sports, a bathing area, a hiking branch with a summit as its destination, and historic sites. The landscape can also be understood through a precise elevation point: U lípek is 378.6 metres above sea level, is the highest point in Dolní Domaslavice, and offers expansive views of the surrounding area. This lets you decide first whether water, hiking or local history should shape your stay.
Reservoir, water sports and bathing area
The Žermanická přehrada reservoir lies on the Lučina River and extends partly into Dolní Domaslavice. Its water surface covers about 250 ha. The reservoir is used for recreation and offers excellent conditions for water sports, including windsurfing. At about 250 ha, its size is easy to appreciate; windsurfing is one specific example of the water sports available at the reservoir.
The “VN Žermanice – Dolní Domaslavice” bathing area is located below the Dolní Domaslavice campsite. It has a grassy beach and a gently sloping entry into the water. These features refer to this specific bathing area and complement the reservoir’s broader focus on water sports.
The campsite has a snack bar, toilets and showers; there are no lifeguards or medical staff. Facilities may vary seasonally, and bathing conditions should also be checked seasonally. Check current conditions and which services are available on site before swimming.
Church and local history
The Church of Saint James the Greater is located on the border between Horní and Dolní Domaslavice and historically served as the shared centre of both municipalities. Today it is once again a spiritual centre where residents of both Domaslavice municipalities meet. In this way, its historical role as a shared focal point is linked with its present-day significance for community life.
The former château of Dolní Domaslavice was built in 1804 as a small Neoclassical château with Empire-style elements; the building has not survived. The historic Domaslavské Museum had 1,390 inventory items. A corner interior in the vestibule of the municipal office now recalls the Slezská jizba of the former museum. The collection belongs to the museum’s history, while the corner interior provides a present-day reminder.
Hiking destination and cycling route
If you are looking for a clearly named summit as a hiking destination, you can follow the Prašivá nature trail: one branch starts in Dolní Domaslavice and ends at the summit of Malá Prašivá. For cyclists, cycle route 6090 runs from Dolní Domaslavice to Český Těšín. The named destinations therefore differ: the hiking branch ends at a mountain summit, while the cycle route leads to Český Těšín. Check the cycle route signs on site.
Water, local history and the routes mentioned here offer different focuses for planning a trip. The reservoir is a place for recreation and water sports; the church, former château and museum history offer insights into the past and community life. Malá Prašivá’s summit is the named destination for a hike, and Český Těšín for a cycling trip.
