Svojek – Cultural Monuments and Landscape
Accommodation in Svojek
When planning your trip, Svojek offers several distinct points of interest: cultural monuments and religious sites, a landscape of low ridges and valleys along waterways, a cycle path through the village, and a traditional fire brigade ball held every year. You can plan your stay around local history, a cycling trip, or a specific event date.
Landscape and Elevation
The area around Svojek is characterized by low ridges and valleys along waterways. The difference in elevation between the ridges and valleys is approximately 80 to 100 metres; the area’s average elevation is 450 metres. These figures answer different questions: 450 metres refers to the average elevation, while 80 to 100 metres describes the approximate difference in elevation between the two types of terrain. Together, they provide a concise picture of the local relief.
Cultural Monuments and Local History
The immovable cultural monuments in Svojek include the log building No. 28 – Alinčovi and the farmstead complex No. 33 – Prášilovi. The names refer to two different types of monument: No. 28 centres on a single log building, while No. 33 is a farmstead complex. This distinction helps put local history into context by differentiating an individual building from a protected farmstead.
Another cultural monument is house No. 35 – Flajšrovi. It is located in the centre of Svojek, on a road, and was formerly a mill and later a blacksmith’s forge. The protected complex includes house No. 35, part of the dam of a former pond, part of the surrounding stone wall, a well, and the designated plots of the complex. Its former use as a mill and a forge adds two successive functions to its architectural significance.
Chapel, Statue, and Sculpture
The Chapel of St Anthony was built with the support of Antonín Dejmek and consecrated in 1939. Services are held there occasionally. If attending a service is important to your trip, check the relevant date.
The statue of St Wenceslas stands beside the former school in Svojek; the former school building is now used as a cultural centre. The statue was restored in 1999 and treated to protect it from the weather. In Tample, a district belonging to Svojek, the Calvary sculpture is located below the kindergarten. The sites can therefore be identified by different landmarks: the former school in Svojek and the district of Tample.
