Pelešany: Choose a Hotel for the Castle and Rock Trails
Accommodation in Pelešany
Pelešany in the Czech Paradise is a starting point for trails to Valdštejn Castle and through the rocky landscape of Hruboskalsko. When looking for a hotel, the actual starting point matters: a hotel in the Semily District is not necessarily close to the green trail to the castle. Compare the specific address and the room features promised with your planned hike, rather than assuming from the place name that every viewpoint is just a short walk away.
To Valdštejn Castle
Valdštejn Castle, known in German as Waldenstein, stands on rocks in the woods near Pelešany. Founded around 1260, it is considered the oldest castle in the Czech Paradise. A green-marked hiking trail leads from Pelešany to the castle. According to the official visitor information, a car park below the castle can be reached via Pelešany; from there, it is about 700 metres on foot along the green trail. This route starts at the specified car park, not at every hotel room in the village. Check current access arrangements and trail conditions before planning a visit specifically to the castle.
The signposted Maloskalský okruh III cycling route also passes through Pelešany and continues to Valdštejn, then on to Hrubá Skála Castle. It continues the journey through the region differently from a short walk to the castle. Anyone wishing to combine cycling and sightseeing needs a specific starting point, up-to-date route information and a realistic day plan. A hotel listing in the village does not confirm bicycle rental or secure bicycle storage unless these are explicitly offered.
Rock trails and viewpoints
There are marked trails through Hruboskalsko in the surrounding area. A narrow, uphill path branches off a green-marked trail towards Pelešany and Valdštejn and leads to Kalvárie. The site is described as a pilgrimage destination with a viewpoint. It makes for a scenic detour, but the climb should be factored into your plans. If you expect an easy, flat circuit, check the specific route carefully and do not assume that Kalvárie is easy to reach just because it is close to the castle.
The Vojtěch Kopice rock gallery has a walking route featuring sandstone reliefs, most of which depict scenes from Czech history. Nearby Kopicův statek dates from the late 18th century. Together, they add art and architectural history to the visit. The cycling route continues to Hrubá Skála and on to these attractions; an individual accommodation need not be right next to them.
Another well-known viewpoint is Hlavatice, a solitary sandstone rock at the end of the Hruboskalsko ridge. The viewing platform is about 380 metres above sea level and offers views of Turnov and the Jizera Valley, among other places. It can only be reached on foot via the red-marked Zlatá stezka Českého ráje trail. This is a separate hiking destination, not the same 700-metre route from the castle car park.
Hotel location and itinerary
For a short stay, accommodation near your planned starting point may be more useful than accommodation listed only under a broad regional name. Check the location, room, price and booking conditions in the specific current offer. The overview of the Semily District provides broader geographical context; it does not confirm that a hotel is available in Pelešany. Keeping the castle, cycling and rock trails distinct makes it easier to decide which base suits your visit.
