Großfürwitz offers several concrete points of interest for planning a trip: National Cycling Route No. 35 runs through Vrbice, two chapels have their own architectural and historical features, and the Vrbice wind farm represents a technical project. If you are looking for a hotel in Großfürwitz, you can focus your stay on the cycling route, building history or wind farm.

Cycling Route and the “Vrbice - kaple” Chapel

National Cycling Route No. 35 runs through Vrbice (Großfürwitz). For cyclists, the route number is a concrete point of reference when choosing a destination along a named route.

The “Vrbice - kaple” chapel was built in the second half of the 19th century at a crossroads on the right-hand side of the road to Bošov. It lies about 300 m south of the village of Vrbice (Großfürwitz), at the site of an older cross. The construction period, crossroads and former cross connect the building’s history with its precisely described location.

The façade features a relief blind pointed-arch arcade and folk-style decoration. A blind arcade forms an arch on a wall without leaving an opening. The pointed-arch shape describes the outline of the arch; the relief work and decoration add further distinctive features to the façade.

St. Anne and the History of Vrbice

The Chapel of St. Anne stands in the eastern part of the village square in the centre of Vrbice. The municipality built it in 1893 without ecclesiastical approval. A prismatic bell tower is attached centrally in front of the western entrance façade. This provides distinct points of reference: the chapel’s location on the village square and the tower’s position on the western entrance side.

The historical interior furnishings included a pseudo-Romanesque altar with a painting of St. Anne, as well as sculptures of St. Joachim and St. Joseph. The chapel is occasionally used for services.

The oldest historically preserved mention of the municipality of Vrbice dates from 1384. Thus, an early mention of the municipality and specific religious buildings from the 19th century stand side by side as distinct historical points of reference.

Vrbice Wind Farm: Project and Technical Specifications

The Vrbice wind farm is located in the cadastral area of the municipality of Vrbice u Valče. The planned wind farm is situated at an elevation of 610 to 620 m above sea level. The project comprises two ENERCON E82 E2 wind turbines.

Each of the two turbines has a capacity of 2.3 MW, a hub height of 98 m and a rotor diameter of 82 m. These figures refer to different characteristics: the capacity applies to each turbine, the hub height indicates the height of the hub, and the rotor diameter is the measurement of the rotor. The elevation of 610 to 620 m is a separate figure describing the planned wind farm’s location.

This gives you several possible themes to focus on when planning a trip: a named cycling route, chapels with specific building and local histories, and a wind farm project described in technical terms. You can take these differences into account when deciding which aspect you would like to make the focus of your stay in Großfürwitz.
