Educational Trails and Routes in Nejdek
The “Vysoká Štola – Oldřichov” educational trail starts behind the Nejdek winter sports stadium. Its route passes through Pozorka, Vysoká Štola and Oldřichov, then returns to Nejdek through the Oldřichov Valley. Along its 9 km-plus route are nine stops covering history, geology, mining, old roads and the character of the landscape. Car parking is available for the educational trail at the football stadium and the winter sports stadium. As parking rules may change, check the situation before your trip.
The 5 km-long “Děti dětem” educational trail runs through the southern part of Nejdek. At eight stops, it introduces the plants, animals, rocks and people of the Nejdek region. If you are interested in several of these topics, this circular route offers a different focus from the route to Oldřichov, whose stops cover history, geology and mining.
The 2.6 km-long red-marked local circular route “Po stopách slavnĂ˝ch nejdeckĂ˝ch osobnostĂ” passes through the town centre. It connects memorial stones, plaques on birthplaces and other locations associated with people from Nejdek. These include the birthplace of actor VladimĂr Ráž, a viewpoint over Nejdek and the spot from which J. W. Goethe drew the tower of Nejdek.
The “KĹ™ĂĹľovĂ˝m vrchem” circular route is listed as 5.4 km long and starts right in Nejdek. The “Nejdecká kĹ™ĂĹľová cesta” Stations of the Cross is shorter, at 1,600 metres. It climbs 110 metres and includes 14 stone chapels as stations. Along the way, there are views of Nejdek’s historic district and the deep valley of the Rolava. The specific distances make it easier to compare these routes with longer hikes while keeping their different themes in mind.
The 10.2 km-long hiking trip “PĹ™es NejdeckĂ˝ Ĺ pičák k LesĂku” runs from Nejdek via NejdeckĂ˝ Ĺ pičák to LesĂk. You can swim in the LesĂk reservoir along the way. If you plan to visit the “Rozhledna Pajndl” lookout tower, the green-marked hiking trail from Nejdek takes about two hours on foot; the tower is open year-round. As access information may change, check before your visit. Information about hiking routes may also be updated.
Culture and Other Places to Visit
The “Evangelický kostel Vykupitele” church was completed in 1904 in the Neo-Gothic style. Since 2007, the site, including the Art Nouveau vicarage, has been protected as a cultural monument. In Suchá stands the pseudo-Gothic “Kaple v Suché” chapel, built in 1885 near a farmstead on the raised bank of a rural pond.
In the townscape, the “Kašna Rolávka” fountain represents the Rolava River, with light-coloured river pebbles forming its original riverbed. Another stop is the “Hradnà věž” tower: public access is possible by prior arrangement with the owner, the dean of St Martin’s Church.
The Nejdek Museum is closed while the building is being renovated and a new permanent exhibition is being prepared. As this status may change, check whether the museum has reopened before visiting.
The “Krušnohorský Semmering” railway line is also a prominent feature for getting around Nejdek: it runs via Nové Hamry to Pernink. Over its 15 km, the line covers an elevation difference of 360 metres, using three tunnels and the Nové Hamry loop. If you plan to travel by train, check the current timetable.
