Janessen: Cycling Routes and Architectural History
Accommodation in Janessen
Cycling routes and historic buildings give a trip to Janessen several different themes. Two cycling routes pass through Jenišov, each covering 11 kilometres; Velká loketská výsypka is part of a larger landscape spanning several municipalities. Other highlights include the viaduct near Jenišov and the Chapel of St. Anne in the town centre. When planning your trip, it is helpful to distinguish the local routes from the paths on the spoil heap and to consider the different historical periods associated with each building.
Cycling: Two Routes and a Larger Network
Cycling routes 2227 and 2228 are each 11 km long, but pass through different places. Route 2227 runs from K. Vary via Jenišov to Chodov; within the town, it follows Jetelová and Pod Rybníkem. Route 2228 runs from Stará Role via Jenišov to Loket, following Pod Rybníkem and Jetelová there. So, besides their equal length, the main points of comparison are their stated destinations and the route each takes through Jenišov. Both sections through the town follow the same two streets, while the longer connections link different places.
Route 2227 includes paved paths with asphalt and gravel surfaces. Route 2228 runs mostly away from motor traffic; heavier traffic should be expected between Loučky and Loket. Thus, the surface is a specific point of comparison for route 2227, while for route 2228 it is the traffic conditions. Traffic conditions can change, so check the current situation and route conditions before setting out.
Another point of reference is Velká loketská výsypka. The reclaimed external spoil heap of the Družba brown coal mine stretches between Nové Sedlo, Mírová, Jenišov, and Hory. It has 14 km of marked cycling paths and seven rest areas. The cycling facilities are part of a landscape that includes several municipalities, including Jenišov. This distinction is important when planning: the two local routes each have named endpoints and are 11 km long, whereas the 14 km of cycling paths and seven rest areas belong to the spoil heap as a larger area. It is also advisable to check current conditions for these paths.
Buildings and Local History
The viaduct near Jenišov was built in 1870 during construction of the Buštěhrad Railway and remains in use today without major repairs. Its stone arch crosses the Chodovský potok immediately beside the millrace of a former mill. The viaduct is also the largest structure in the cadastral area of the municipality of Jenišov. Its construction history and waterside location offer different points of reference that come together when viewing the townscape.
The Neoclassical Chapel of St. Anne offers a different historical perspective. It was built in 1849 to a design by mason Franz Gelinka, on the site of an earlier wooden bell tower, and was completely reconstructed from 1991 to 1993. Today, it stands on the village square in the centre of Jenišov. Visits are limited to the accessible outdoor area. Its construction and reconstruction mark two distinct stages in its history: the original building and its later complete restoration.
