Vinary: Village Pond and Local History
Accommodation in Vinary
Vinary combines local history with fishing at Návesák Pond and local events. Historic landmarks range from archaeological finds to monuments from the 18th and 19th centuries. When planning your stay, it is worth distinguishing these enduring features of the village from events associated with specific past years.
Village Pond, Pond History, and Monuments
At the far end of the village pond, in the village square, stands a stone cross with a statue of the Crucified Christ dating from 1751. On the west side of a pond in Vinary stands a statue of the Virgin Mary, erected in 1893. The two monuments belong to different periods: the stone cross dates from the 18th century, and the statue of the Virgin Mary from the late 19th century. Together, their locations and dates provide specific points of reference for local history.
The Návesák Pond’s former shape is also part of the story. It was once larger and extended as far as the present-day clubhouse, the statue of the Virgin Mary, and the fire station. Its former extent can be described using these landmarks: the pond shaped the landscape differently then than it does today. This offers a distinct perspective on Vinary, alongside its dated monuments and settlement history.
Early Settlement and Former Winemaking
Archaeological finds of stone axes and hearths point to prehistoric settlement, probably dating from the 4th century. This dating is tentative. Historic landmarks still known today, such as the stone cross and the statue of the Virgin Mary, belong to much later centuries; the finds reach back to a far earlier period. The village’s history therefore spans several widely separated eras and is not limited to a single monument or event.
Viticulture is also part of the village’s earlier history. Vines were once grown and wine produced on Vinary’s north-facing slope. This tradition is linked to a specific historical setting: vines and wine are mentioned in connection with the former use of the northern slope. The history of the landscape thus adds another, agricultural facet to the story of the monuments and archaeological finds.
Fishing and Local Events
Adults and children can fish at Návesák Pond for a fee. If you plan to do so, check the local fishing regulations for current permit details. Fishing should be distinguished from the historical information about the pond: it is an activity that involves a fee and permit requirements.
A recurring local occasion is Silvestrovský fotbálek, a year-end football match traditionally organized by the Vinary firefighters. The match took place in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Its year-end timing makes it a different type of event from the Children’s Days, which are associated with individual past dates.
On June 2, 2024, Children’s Day with VeÄŤernĂÄŤek was held at the sports field by the clubhouse in Vinary. Fairytale characters offered children activity stations with various tasks; children who completed them received a sweet reward. In 2025, Vinary also held KloboukovĂ˝ dÄ›tskĂ˝ den. These two Children’s Days were individual past events; they do not constitute a current or regular children’s program.
Your stay can therefore focus on different things: local history at the monuments, the development of Návesák Pond, fishing and its associated permit requirements, or the timing of local events. Historical dates and past event dates help distinguish these topics without presenting them as a single seasonal program.
