The spa history of Lázně Velichovky dates back to 1897. Today, Lázně Velichovky specializes in treating disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Two Educational Trails, Two Different Themes

The “Stezka historií obce Velichovky” history trail starts at the municipal office and connects 16 historic sites. Wooden information boards display historical photographs, some of which are more than 100 years old. The trail focuses on the history of the village, presented through specific stops and historic images.

The “Naučná lesní stezka” forest trail starts behind Brána lásky. It features play elements about trees and animals, as well as a newly built pavilion where visitors can rest. The main difference between the trails is their subject matter: historic sites and photographs on the one hand, trees and animals on the other.

Buildings and History

The Church of the Transfiguration (Kostel Proměnění Páně) was founded by Hanibal of Valdštejn in 1616 and is a single-nave Renaissance building. The protected area includes the church, the mortuary, the perimeter wall, and the access staircase. Masarykův dům is the main building of the spa complex and also its only immovable cultural monument.

Schörnerova vila in the spa park is also linked to the history of the Second World War: in spring 1945, the German Army Group Centre’s command was run from there. On May 8, 1945, the text of the Third Reich’s capitulation arrived at the villa. These two facts give the villa a specific historical significance beyond its function as a building.
