Horicky: Cultural History and Views
Accommodation in Horicky
Hořičky combines a history of Baroque church architecture with its historical role as a summer spa town in the 19th century. Barunčina vyhlídka offers a different focus, with views to the north. The Mečov village theatre and the traditional Hořičská pilgrimage fair add to its cultural appeal. When planning your stay, history, events, and views offer different interests to explore.
Church and Spa Town History
The Baroque Church of the Holy Spirit was built in 1714–1715 on the site of an earlier Gothic church. Its history therefore involves two successive churches: the Gothic predecessor and the Baroque building. The transition between these architectural styles offers a tangible way to explore the history of Hořičky.
The church, together with its bell tower and surrounding wall, is a registered cultural monument. The interior contains notable tombstones. The monument thus comprises several named architectural elements, while the tombstones are a distinct feature of the interior.
In the 19th century, Hořičky was a popular summer spa town visited by many notable people. Its medical heritage includes the famous bone-setter Antonín Pich and the introduction of modern treatments for bone and joint disorders at the sanatoriums of MUDr. Alois Kutík and MUDr. Kašpar Rosa. The town’s spa history thus encompasses both visits by notable people and a specific history of treating bone and joint disorders.
Events and Theatre
The traditional Hořičská pilgrimage fair took place in Hořičky from 22 to 24 May 2026. That year, the funfair offered carousels and other attractions, as well as stalls selling fairground snacks and other treats. If you would like to plan your stay around a festival, check the dates for the relevant edition in advance.
Mečov village theatre develops its own theatrical productions with local residents and professional actors. Performance dates vary. Unlike a historic building, the focus here is on working together to create original productions.
