Bukovice can be explored through several specific interests: three hiking routes with their own lengths and directions, the rocky landscape of Ostaš, a historic column in the village and other leisure activities. If you’re looking for a hotel in Bukovice, you can first decide which of these themes you’d like to shape your stay. The following sections cover hiking, nature, history and seasonal activities so you can match the character of the destination to your own plans.

Hiking between Bukovice and Ostaš

The 14.4-kilometre Trasa Hvězda passes through Bukovice and then continues towards Hvězda. The 12.7-kilometre Trasa Ostaš runs via Nebíčko and Bukovice on to Ostaš. At 16.4 kilometres, Trasa Hony is the longest of the three; it also passes through Bukovice and offers views of Ostaš and the Broumovské stěny. The routes therefore range from 12.7 to 16.4 kilometres: Ostaš is the destination of the shortest route, Hvězda is the direction of another, and Hony combines the longest distance with the views mentioned above. The distances allow you to compare the routes directly. Trail conditions may vary; take current conditions into account when planning your trip.

Ostaš: Rocks, Views and Conservation Regulations

Part of the Level II protection zone of the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area lies within the municipality of Bukovice, below Mount Ostaš. This designation applies to part of the municipality, not to every area in Bukovice. Ostaš has two rock cities with many different rock formations. The Ostaš circular trail crosses the summit plateau and follows its rocky edge, where there are several developed and unique viewpoints. Access may be regulated; check the conditions before setting out. In the Ostaš Nature Reserve, climbing is permitted in appropriately designated areas under Broumovsko’s conservation regulations; seasonal conditions apply.

History of Bukovice

A column topped with an Immaculata statue dating from 1747 stands by a road in Bukovice. The village’s earlier history includes its founding around 1220 by Benedictines from Police. They established a manor farm there, which was still mentioned in 1405. These dates mark different milestones: around 1220 refers to the founding and construction of the farm, while 1405 marks its later mention. Together with the Immaculata statue from 1747, they trace a timeline from the medieval beginnings of the settlement to a dated religious artwork.

Seasonal and Other Leisure Activities

The Nebíčko ski area is located between Police nad Metují and Bukovice, towards Broumov. As it is a seasonal facility, check current operating status and conditions before planning a visit. At Artamon’s adventure golf course, the holes are designed in original and unique ways. Artamon also offers a Finnish sauna for 16 people at 85–95 °C, a bio sauna for 10 people at 65–75 °C, and a whirlpool for 6 people. The Finnish sauna accommodates more people and operates at a higher temperature than the bio sauna; the whirlpool is listed separately, with a capacity of six people. If you plan to include any of these facilities in your trip, confirm the operating conditions before you travel.
