Discover Stirin: Castle history and a landscape of springs
Accommodation in Stirin
If you’re looking for a hotel in Stirin, your choice of location may depend on the themes you want your trip to focus on. Štiřín Castle reflects a building history shaped by Baroque and Neo-Baroque alterations; the castle grounds are laid out around scenic vistas. The Štiřínské studánky add ponds, springs and wells. A nature trail connects Štiřín with Lojovice. These different points of interest can help you choose a place that suits your interests.
Štiřín Castle: Building history and protection
The present-day appearance of Štiřín Castle dates back to Baroque and Neo-Baroque alterations. The terms refer to different stylistic influences: Neo-Baroque revives forms from the Baroque period. To understand the castle’s appearance, it is therefore important to consider not just a single structural feature but also the influence of these alterations.
An important phase of renovation and redesign took place between 1892 and 1910, based on designs by architect Jiří Stibral. During this period, the north wing and entrance area were remodeled, and electric lighting was installed. Thus, the castle’s history includes both structural changes and a technical innovation. The grounds of Štiřín Castle are protected as an immovable cultural monument.
Parkland and designed vistas
Štiřín Castle Park is an important work of landscape and garden art. The castle grounds feature scenic vistas and views of the castle, as well as views from the castle across composed landscape scenes. Vistas direct the view in particular directions; here, they structure the relationship between the castle and the designed landscape. The grounds can therefore be understood not only through their architecture but also through the way the buildings and landscape scenes relate to one another.
Štiřínské studánky: Ponds, springs and wells
At the western edge of Štiřínský rybník, a forest path leads to Štiřínské studánky. In the spring area of the nearby Pod stodůlkou forest, there is a large cascade of ponds as well as several springs and wells. The area thus brings together different forms of water in one landscape: alongside the springs and wells, the ponds also shape its appearance.
The springs also had a practical function in the past: they supplied water to Štiřín Castle and the former castle brewery. Understanding Štiřínské studánky therefore involves both their appearance in the landscape and their former use. If you’re interested in the castle’s history, this water supply offers another perspective on how the local springs were used in the past.
Nature trail and trip planning
The Od zámku k zámku nature trail connects Lojovice and Štiřín and extends a section of the Krajinou barona Ringhoffera nature trail. It offers a different way to explore Štiřín than the forest path to the springs: the forest path provides access to Štiřínské studánky, while the nature trail links two places. Seasonal conditions can affect hiking, so take them into account when planning your trip.
The golf course is another local point of interest, with one important caveat: the golf course in Štiřín is closed. If golf is important to your trip, check its status in advance.
