If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Senohraby, you can plan your trip around the things that interest you locally: paths to Zlenice Castle, the Mnichovka and the Sázava, historic sites or seasonal activities. The different destinations and attractions have different conditions. For planning, it is therefore worth considering not only your interests but also the route, the season and, where relevant, current dates.

Train Station, Hiking Trails and Views

At Senohraby railway station, step-free access is available to the station building and all platforms. A yellow-marked hiking trail connects the station with the ruins of Zlenice Castle. Signage and local conditions may change, so check them before setting out.

Another way to find your bearings is the Vodnické vycházky educational and experience trail. It runs along the right bank of the Mnichovka to the Sázava; along the way, visitors can reach Zlenice Castle, also known as Hláska, and try out a newly built viewpoint. Vodnické vycházky comprises 13 stops in three sections: Ondřejovská, Lensedelská and Senohrabská. Trail conditions may change here, too.

Sázava, Ferry and Seasonal Attractions

Plovárna Senohraby is on the right bank of the Sázava at river kilometer 37.6, where it meets the Mnichovka. It lies between Senohraby and Čtyřkoly, opposite the settlement of Zlenice. This location makes the river landscape a point of interest in its own right, alongside the paths to the castle. The traditional Senohraby ferry is propelled with a simple pole and remains a tourist attraction to this day. Its operating conditions may vary by season, so check whether it is running before planning a visit.

On the banks of the Sázava, in the southeastern part of the area, is the seasonal Poddubí (U Bořka) recreation center. It focuses on water tourism connected with the Sázava. As the center is seasonal, confirm that it is currently operating before including it in your plans. The ferry and recreation center thus offer two distinct points of interest along the river, each with its own seasonal conditions.

Zlenice Castle and Local History

Zlenice Castle was founded after 1300 on a rocky promontory. Below it, the Mnichovický stream flows into the Sázava. Only the ruins of the castle remain today; it is commonly called Hláska after the prominent remnant of its tower. The educational and experience trail leads to this historic site. The setting of the castle can also be understood from the relationship between the rocky promontory, stream and river.

There is also a specific historic landmark in the town: the chapel in Senohraby is dedicated to Saint Adalbert and was built in 2010 and 2011 with donations from local residents. In addition, the complex of villas and trampers’ and non-trampers’ cabins in Senohraby is considered unique in the Czech lands and historically valuable. These places represent different aspects of local history and round out an outing that is not focused solely on the castle.

Winter and Event Dates

Cross-country ski trails are available in the cadastral areas of Senohraby and Pětihost in connection with the Vávrův palouk ski area. Various races are held there, including, for example, an amateur Vasaloppet. Snow conditions depend on the season.

Another event is the “Okolo hvězdárny k Ladově chalupě” hiking march, which has been held in Senohraby since 1971. If you would like to combine your trip with this event, check the dates and participation details separately. Another part of local sporting history is the ski jump on the northern edge of Hláska Hill: it opened on January 15, 1933, and its take-off tower was 16 meters high. The jump is no longer in operation.
