Modletice is located less than 20 km from Prague. Local highlights include Modletice Chateau, the Zámecký rybník in the centre of the village, and a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. There is also an annual music festival and an autumn hiking march. The architecture, monument, village centre and events offer different ways to plan a stay.

Chateau, Monument and Village Centre

Modletice Chateau is a Baroque chateau dating from 1777. It has one storey and a mansard roof. A mansard roof has slopes at different angles on each side; the term therefore describes a particular roof shape. The term Baroque identifies the style, while “one-storey” describes the height and “mansard roof” the roof shape. This allows the style and exterior form of the building to be considered separately. The chateau is currently used exclusively for commercial purposes.

There is also a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in Modletice, dating from 1806. The two dates are 29 years apart: the historical features mentioned here span the late 18th century to the first years of the 19th century. The Zámecký rybník is in the centre of Modletice. It adds a landscape dimension to the architectural and historical features and places another local point of interest in the village centre.

Music Festival and Autumn Špacír

The Modletické zvonění music festival has been held in Modletice every year since 2010. Past line-ups have included Aneta Langerová, Tomáš Klus, Nerez and Mňága a Ždorp. The festival is therefore a recurring musical event with a history dating back to 2010.

For travel planning, the festival and the Špacír offer two different types of event: a musical event and an autumn hiking march. If you are especially interested in music, Modletické zvonění is the relevant event; if you are interested in a walking route, the Špacír takes centre stage.

The autumn Špacír route covers about 12 km through Modletice and several neighbouring municipalities. The exact route may vary from year to year. One edition was a hiking march through four municipalities; one edition covered about 10 km, and in one edition the march started in the courtyard of Modletice Chateau. The approximately 12 km describes the autumn event format, while the roughly 10 km refers to a single edition. So if you plan to take part in the march, check the route for that particular edition. The difference is around 2 km.
