When planning a stay in Sedlec, three themes can be distinguished: the local brewery, historic buildings in Prčice and routes in the area around Sedlec-Prčice. These different local connections can help you explore architectural history, hiking trails and beer brewing according to your travel interests. If you are looking for a hotel in Sedlec, you can first consider which of these focuses matters for your stay.

Architectural history in Prčice

Prčice lies in a basin locally known as “Český Merán.” At Vítkovo náměstí, house no. 6 is one of the oldest historic buildings in Prčice. It has been listed as a cultural monument since 2009. This makes it a specific point of reference if you are interested in the square’s historic buildings.

The Church of St. Lawrence in Prčice is originally Romanesque. Its foundation is dated to the 12th century, or possibly as early as the 11th century. The Plague Chapel was built after the plague epidemic of 1680 and is a protected monument. A very well-preserved, two-storey late Gothic fortress is located in the Prčice chateau building. Together, these buildings illustrate different facets of local history: a church whose foundation date is deliberately left open, a chapel built for a specific historical reason, and a fortress distinguished by its late Gothic architecture.

Another structure connects the local histories of Sedlec and Prčice: the Karla Burky Bridge was completed in 1822 as a direct link between the two places. It is 200 m long, made of masonry and has three arched openings. Its length and design offer a different historical point of reference from the church, chapel or fortress.

Educational trail, route and recurring events

The educational trail “Od vítkovské růže k zázračnému prameni” is 7.3 km long and runs through the immediate surroundings of Sedlec-Prčice. Its first stop is Vítkovo náměstí in Prčice. This gives you both the trail’s length and a named point at its start. If you plan to take the educational trail, check the route conditions before travelling.

The Sedlčany-Robinova Route starts in Sedlčany and heads from north to Prčice. It offers a different geographical orientation from the educational trail: the trail’s length and first stop are specified, while the Sedlčany-Robinova Route is described by its starting point and direction. This lets you compare the different route details without treating them as the same route.

The annual Praha–Prčice march takes place on the third Saturday in May; its history dates back to 1966. If you want to plan your trip around the march, check the date for the relevant year. The Church of St. Lawrence also hosts an annual event: a concert as part of the Czech Organ Festival. Check its date before travelling if the concert is important to your plans.

Brewery in Sedlec

The Vítek z Prčice brewery in Sedlec brews unfiltered, top-fermented beer. This is a distinct local attraction alongside the historic buildings in Prčice and the routes in the surrounding area. If you want to include beer production in your travel plans, check the beer’s availability in advance.
