Hlásná Třebaň: Geology, River Landscape and Local History
Accommodation in Hlásná Třebaň
Hlásná Třebaň lies on the left bank of the Berounka and on the edge of the Český kras Protected Landscape Area. Nature, geology and local history also offer useful points of reference for planning your trip: a geological educational trail starts here, and the history of the village dates back to the Bronze Age. Which of these aspects matters for your stay depends on whether you are mainly interested in a cycling route, the landscape or historical development.
River Landscape and Karst
Its location on the left bank of the Berounka and on the edge of Český kras shapes the geographical setting of Hlásná Třebaň. The cadastral area of the village is also part of Karlštejn National Nature Reserve. The reserve contains world-renowned Paleozoic geological profiles and paleontological sites, as well as surface and underground karst features.
For your planning, it is therefore worth distinguishing between these different connections: Hlásná Třebaň lies by the river and on the edge of the protected landscape area, while the description of the geological and paleontological features refers to the larger nature reserve.
Geological Educational Trail and Cycling Routes
The Geologická naučná stezka (Geological Educational Trail) starts in Hlásná Třebaň. It is about 39 kilometres long and is primarily designed as a cycling route. You can choose the order of the stops yourself or cover only part of the route. The route is therefore not tied to a single sequence of stops; the main considerations in your decision are its approximate total length, its focus on cycling and the option of doing only part of it.
A cycling tour route in Berounsko is a separate route: it runs from Hlásná Třebaň over a pedestrian bridge to Zadní Třebaň and then follows the railway line to Řevnice. The EV4 cycle route also leads towards Hlásná Třebaň. If you plan to use one of these routes, check the route and road conditions before setting out.
Local History and Historical Traces
The area where Hlásná Třebaň now stands was already inhabited in the Early and Late Bronze Age and during the Hallstatt period. The first mention of the village in historical sources dates from the year 1000. In 1357, Charles IV bought the village and incorporated it into the newly built Karlštejn Castle estate. These milestones give the local history a long timeline, from early periods of settlement to the village’s medieval connection with the castle.
At the end of the 19th century, Hlásná Třebaň was a small, predominantly agricultural community. At that time, there were several farmsteads with gates in the style of rural Baroque; houses clustered around a village green with a chapel. By the end of the 1930s, the village had become a popular holiday destination. A surviving section of the line of fortifications built in 1936–1937 bears witness to Czechoslovakia’s defence efforts at the time. If you would like to visit it, check access for visitors in advance.
Getting There by Train
From Zadní Třebaň station, railway line 171 Praha–Beroun provides a connection to Prague. The journey to central Prague takes 38 minutes, and trains run every half hour. Check the timetable before travelling if this connection is important to your plans. When choosing your destination, you can therefore take the train connection into account alongside the river landscape, cycling routes and local history.
