Srbsko in the Český kras
Accommodation in Srbsko
Srbsko on the Berounka
Srbsko stretches along both banks of the Berounka, six kilometres southeast of the royal town of Beroun. Limestone cliffs surround the basin; the village lies directly within the Český kras Protected Landscape Area. Hiking, cycling, and climbing offer different ways to experience the landscape. The trails vary considerably in length and mode of travel—useful to know when planning your days around the activities.
The cadastral area of Srbsko u Berouna is one of the cadastral areas of the Karlštejn National Nature Reserve. The reserve’s natural outcrops and those created by quarries contain world-famous Palaeozoic geological profiles and palaeontological sites. There are also surface and underground karst formations. The landscape thus reveals both natural geological features and traces of quarrying.
On foot along the Srdcem Českého krasu educational trail
The Srdcem Českého krasu educational trail is nine kilometres long and rated as a moderately difficult hiking route. Starting in Srbsko, it passes the Bubovické Waterfalls, continues through Boubová, Propadlé vody, and Hostim, and follows the Kačák to its confluence with the Berounka near Kozel. A closure affects the full loop, so take this into account when planning.
Along the educational trail are twelve original and six new information panels, as well as three entrance panels. Various interactive, playful, and educational features complement them. The information panels and features may be updated over time. This way, the route combines the trail itself with explanations relating to the landscape and its distinctive features.
The Bubovické Waterfalls are nearby. In dry years, they can remain dry for extended periods; they are particularly impressive in winter, spring, or after rain. Water levels therefore affect what you can see there—something to bear in mind when choosing when to visit.
Cycling routes of varying lengths
The Geological Educational Trail is a 39-kilometre cycling route of moderate difficulty, with 17 stops. It runs from V Kozle via Srbsko to Koda, Tobolka, Kobyla, and Zlatý kůň, ending in Suchomasty. The stops do not have to be visited in order: you can choose your own sequence or ride only part of the route. Signposting and trail conditions may change; check both before setting off.
Another option is the Po stopách českých králů educational trail. It is about twelve kilometres long and runs along the Berounka between Srbsko, Beroun, and Králův Dvůr. The route is suitable for walkers and cyclists. Its length is approximate; signposting and surface conditions may also change here.
For planning purposes, the stated route lengths are easy to compare: the Srdcem Českého krasu hiking trail is nine kilometres long, while the Geological Educational Trail is 39 kilometres long. Both are rated as moderately difficult, but differ in length and mode of travel. The Po stopách českých králů route, at around twelve kilometres, is another approximate distance and is suitable for both walkers and cyclists.
Climbing and local history
The Srbsko – levý břeh climbing area is located on limestone cliffs on the banks of the Berounka, in the valley between Beroun and Karlštejn. Climbing routes on walls, slabs, and overhangs predominate. Check current access restrictions before climbing.
Srbsko was first mentioned in a written record in 1482. The accounts of Karlštejn Castle report that a fisherman from Srbsko bought part of the forests. The village’s development is also linked to limestone quarrying: the J. Tomášek company opened the first limestone quarry in 1882. Together with the area’s geological features, these details give an impression of how closely local history and limestone are connected.
