Zdice offers a range of ways to shape your stay: architectural history, 20th-century military history and Knihov Forest Park. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and the town hall represent historic architecture; the cinema adds a touch of Cubist style. If you are looking for hotels in Zdice, these differences can help you decide what to focus on during your trip.

Church, Town Hall and Cinema

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary stands in the town centre on the main street. The present Baroque building was constructed in 1747–1749, after the original Gothic church was demolished. The protected complex includes the church, the mortuary chapel and the surrounding stone wall. Its architectural history therefore encompasses both the Gothic predecessor and the later Baroque building.

Zdice Town Hall is also listed as an immovable cultural monument. Its cellar preserves Gothic barrel vaults. Alongside the history of the church, these are further historic architectural features, distinctly different in style from the Baroque church.

The Zdice cinema at 481 Zahradní Street was built in 1926–1927 to a design by Jaroslav Pouch and Václav Zazvonil. It is a cultural monument and a unique building in the spirit of Cubist architecture. Its Rondocubist decoration and a sculpture by Vlastimil Amort on the main façade bring this architectural character to life.

Military History and Cultural Events

The Army Museum Zdice is located on the grounds of the former barracks on Čs. armády Street. It presents 20th-century military history, with a focus on the Second World War and military technology. This subject area differs from the historic buildings: the focus is on military history and technology.

The cultural event Poncarovy Zdice, founded in 1999, combines a brass band concert with a tribute by local residents to Josef Poncar, the composer and conductor. Hájemství zelené is a hiking and cycling tour held in the second half of April. If you would like to include either event in your travel plans, check the specific dates for your travel period.

Knihov Forest Park and Activities

Knihov Hill was transformed into a forest park in 1923. The Lesopark Knihov educational trail has twelve exercise stations, as well as the Tyršova stezka trail for children, with activities. Together, the history of the forest park and the specific stations on the educational trail tell two different things: one dates the site’s development, while the other describes what the trail includes.

The Zdice swimming pool complex also includes a children’s playground and a beach sports area. If these facilities are important for your visit, check their current status in advance, as facilities can change. This helps you factor the specific amenities into your travel plans alongside the architectural history, museum and activities in the forest park.

Getting There and Finding Hotels

A direct R16 train runs from Prague Main Railway Station to Zdice; the journey takes about 50 minutes. Check the current timetable before departure if you plan to travel by train. The approximate journey time gives you a guide for planning, while the cultural and natural attractions offer different options for your stay.

Events and the facilities mentioned at the swimming pool complex each offer their own focus. Consider which of these topics matter to your trip, then look for a hotel for your stay in Zdice.
