Hýskov lies in the Berounka Valley on the river’s left bank, surrounded by wooded countryside. The village brings together river scenery, nature-related themes and cultural points of interest for a stay. You can plan your visit around whether you would prefer to focus on local circular trails, the Naučný park or the cultural centre associated with František Nepil. The following sections show the different highlights these places and routes offer.

The Berounka, a footbridge and historic routes

Hýskov lies on the Berounka’s left bank, in a valley surrounded by wooded countryside. The river defines the village’s geographical setting, while the woodland adds to its connection with nature. A footbridge links the two banks. Separately, the cycle route from Nižbor to Beroun passes through Hýskov. This means there are two distinct points of interest: a specific place to cross the river on foot and a named cycle route.

The village’s history also includes a historic route: in the Middle Ages, the Královská cesta ran through Hýskov from Karlštejn Castle towards Křivoklát. This route is distinct from the cycle route between Nižbor and Beroun, which dates to a different period. If you are interested in the village’s history, this offers a separate connection to the landscape: Hýskov lay on the medieval route between the two castles.

Naučný park: nature and views

The Naučný park replaced a former landfill and opened in 2015. The park includes a path lined with trees, plants and herbs, as well as information panels about local nature. The path and panels offer different perspectives: the vegetation forms the immediate setting, while the information draws attention to nature in the area. The park also offers a place to rest, a lovely view of Hýskov and a pleasant setting for spending leisure time outdoors. If you would like to combine scenery with nature-related themes during your stay, several of these aspects come together here.

Two circular trails with local connections

The “Poznáváme Hýskov” educational trail, prepared in November 2024, consists of two separate circular routes. Both start in the village square. This gives you two distinct loops with a shared starting point, rather than one single route. The trail presents the history and legends of Hýskov, explains the meanings of local field names and introduces natural landmarks in the municipality.

The trail’s themes range from local stories and history to landscape names and nature. If you are particularly interested in the municipality and its traditions, its history, legends and field names offer a different way to explore the area than its natural landmarks. By comparison, the Naučný park focuses on plants, herbs and information about nature. The circular trails and the park therefore offer different ways to include nature and local character in your travel plans.

František Nepil and the cultural centre

František Nepil’s birthplace was restored and opened in 2015 as the Spolkové a informační centrum Hýskov. The centre houses a permanent exhibition of Nepil’s works and preserved memorabilia. Readings and information about his life complement this focus. The centre is also used by the public for cultural events and exhibitions. It thus brings together the birthplace, an exhibition and a venue for cultural events.

One of Hýskov’s recurring events is the “Noční soutěž mladých hasičů,” a night-time firefighting competition for children and young people. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the relevant date in advance.
