Explore Tragjas’s cultural heritage through the ruined village of Tragjas i Vjetër, Gjon Boçari Castle and the area’s well-known traditions; Rrepet e Izvorit adds a natural dimension. Each of these places offers a different focus: the old village centers on traces of settlement, the castle on its elevated position and views, and the springs on karst features and plane trees. A route takes you through several of these stops.

Tragjas i Vjetër and cultural heritage

Tragjas i Vjetër is a ruined village and a cultural monument in Tragjas. It is considered an open-air museum and a quiet testament to the past. What remains includes a main street that runs the full length of the village, along with the outlines of former homes. The village, with 300 houses, extended along a hillside. The street layout, house outlines and hillside setting make the former village legible as a cohesive settlement. The cave between Dukat and Tragjas is also among the cultural monuments in Vlorë County.

Gjon Boçari Castle: location and views

Gjon Boçari Castle stands on a prominent hill above the Dukat plain and above Tragjas and Radhimë. From its defensive towers, the view extends across the Bay of Vlora, over the Dukat plain to Orikum, and along part of the road to Qafa e Llogarasë. While the historic settlement at Tragjas i Vjetër is defined by its street layout and house outlines, the castle’s elevated position and far-reaching views are key features.

Rrepet e Izvorit: springs and plane trees

Rrepet e Izvorit is located near Tragjas Fushë, at numerous karst springs, and includes a small wooded area with more than 100 old plane trees. The site is of biological, ecological, educational and tourism importance. The springs and woodland give this natural attraction a different focus from the built traces of the old village. Rrepet e Izvorit can be visited via the Vlorë–Tragjas Fushë road. Road conditions may change; check them before you travel.
