Aabybro offers a range of options to help you plan your trip: paddling, walks, cultural history, golf and shopping. When choosing a hotel, you can first consider what you would like to focus on during your stay. The places and activities provide concrete guidance, though they do not all represent the same kind of outing.

Paddling and getting around on foot

On the Ryå route, you can paddle upstream to “den hvide bro” in Store Vildmose. Aabybro Mejeri is a launch point for the route. The FDF canoe site is opposite Aabybro Mejeri at Aastrupvej 3. Kayaks or boats can moor at Ryå Mejerihavn. At the FDF canoe site, information boards on the building with the life jackets tell the story of the Ryå.

If you prefer to explore on foot, you can plan a long walk from Aabybro to the edge of Store Vildmose. This gives you two different ways to experience the landscape: a paddling route with a named destination, and a walking route described as extending to the edge of the bog. Which option better suits your plans depends first on whether you would rather be on the water or on foot.

Dairy history and culture

Aabybro Mejeri was founded in 1888 as a cooperative dairy by farmers from seven surrounding farms in Vendsyssel. Its founding by several farms is a specific part of its history. Today, too, Mejeri products carry the RYÅ name: the range includes cream ice cream, sorbet, soft serve, fromage and high-energy-density ice cream. This makes it possible to distinguish the dairy’s historical background from its current product range.

Another historic site is the bunker by the railway bridge. The German occupying forces built it in 1944 as part of the “Stützpunktes Aabybro”. Information boards on the bunker tell the story of Munidorf. Aaby Kirke offers a different perspective on the town’s history: it was built around 1150. The local history you can explore during your stay thus spans the medieval period of church building through to the occupation during the Second World War.

The Kultur- og Erhvervscenter in Aabybro hosts concerts several times a year featuring well-known Danish artists. The programmes for individual concerts may change. If a particular performance is important to your travel plans, check the dates in advance.

Golf, ice cream and shopping

Aabybro Golfklub has an 18-hole golf course. Nine lakes come into play on twelve of the holes. The numbers refer to different features: 18 is the total number of holes, while the lakes come into play on twelve of them. For practice, there is a driving range with free balls, as well as a practice green and a putting green.

There are also specific places to stop for ice cream: Privaten Iscafé serves traditional ice cream cones with homemade toppings. Aabybro Mejeri’s RYÅ ice cream products come in several varieties and forms, including sorbet and soft serve. Aabybro is also the commercial centre of Jammerbugt, with well-known chains and local specialist shops. Individual shop offerings may change.

When planning your trip, you can choose between clearly distinct focuses: paddling or walking, cultural history or golf. Concert dates and changing offerings can be checked to fit your plans.
