Kettrup: Trails, Landscape and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Kettrup
Around Kettrup, the landscape, hiking and cultural heritage can be viewed at different scales: from the six-kilometre extension of Sti100 to individual listed buildings and archaeological sites. When planning your trip, you can choose how much emphasis to place on trails, viewpoints and historical landmarks.
Hiking Trails and Landscape
In the area around Kettrup, the extension of Sti100 comprises six kilometres of newly established hiking trail through the coastal landscape from Kettrup Bjerge to Løkken. It runs from north to south. Sti100 also passes Kettrup Bjerge; Vestkystruten runs through the area covered by the Sti100 extension.
The Hærvejen hiking stage between Fjerritslev and Løgstør passes the burial mounds at Husby Hole. Husby Hole also has a viewpoint on a burial mound. This means you can find both a described hiking stage and a viewpoint at a historic site in the surrounding area.
The Sti100 extension can be described by its length and north–south direction; the Hærvejen stage by its route through Fjerritslev, Løgstør and the burial mounds at Husby Hole. Ørnbjerg in Kettrup Bjerge rises to 43 metres. On a clear day, the views from there extend as far as Hanstholm and Rubjerg Knude.
At the regional level, Nordsøstien runs through large parts of the natural landscape of Han Herred. By contrast, the Sti100 extension is described by a specific length and route through the coastal landscape. As trail routes can change, check the current routes of Sti100, Vestkystruten and Hærvejen before setting out on a hike.
Cultural Heritage Around Kettrup
Ågård is designated a nationally significant archaeological heritage site. Ågård Voldsted was protected in 1906. South of Kettrup lies the passage grave Klovenhøj. Its chamber is 3.5 metres long and has two capstones.
Kettrup Kirke also has distinctive architectural features: the nave and the chancel with apse were built from granite blocks in the 11th century. The nave is the church’s main space; the apse is the semicircular end of the chancel. At Klovenhøj, the focus is on the chamber’s length and capstones, while at the church it is on the period of construction, materials and the layout of the nave and chancel.
A description of the Marine coastal battery south of Løkken in Kettrup, updated in 2022, states that all 21 bunkers in the position remain intact. Some installations are on private land.
