Vodskov combines hiking in Hammer Bakker with historic sites and leisure activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Vodskov, you can plan your trip around these different interests: the landscape and hiking trails, local history or a visit to Nymarksminde Farmpark. Each destination has its own distinctive character and offers specific ideas for what you might like to do during your stay.

Landscape and hiking trails

Hammer Bakker features a variety of landscapes and habitats: scrub, mature beech forests, open heathland and plains, as well as larger and smaller lakes and ponds. These bodies of water include Pebermosen, where you will find both open water and a quaking bog of peat mosses. Forest, heathland and water give the landscape its varied character.

Tvillingehøje is also part of the area's natural and historical heritage: these hills are Bronze Age burial mounds and offer views across the heathland. Visitors interested in the area's history will find a tangible historical landmark here, set within a landscape also defined by its open heath.

Hærvejens Perler is a circular route that starts and ends at the same place. A hiking loop through Hammer Bakker passes an old water tower at Pitsvej 6. The tower has been converted into an observation tower and offers views from 70 metres above sea level. The hiking loop also includes two camping areas: one at Brødland and one at Torndal.

For a guided tour of Hammer Bakker, the meeting point is the Nymarksminde car park, Vestvej 91, 9310 Vodskov. Check the tour schedule before you travel. This allows you to include a guided tour as a separate option in your plans, rather than confusing it with the Hærvejens Perler circular route.

Culture and history in Vodskov

Villa Møgelbjerg stands on the edge of Hammer Bakker, north of Vodskov, and offers views over the surrounding area and the Limfjord. The building is privately owned. Vodskov Mill tells another part of the area's story: the present mill was built in 1889 and moved from Flamsted to Vodskov. Friends of Vodskov Mill maintain it and share knowledge about the mill and its history.

Another historic stop is Vodskov Kro. The inn opened in 1898 under the name Vodskov Forsamlingshus. Museet i Hammer Bakker offers a different perspective on the past: the museum provides insight into the living conditions of patients at the institution over time. Together with the Bronze Age burial mounds, these sites reveal different aspects of history, from local history to living conditions in an institution.

A fresco in Vodskov Church depicts the Catholic legend of Christopher, the Christ-bearer. The church is also a roadside church and belongs to a nationwide network of churches that strive to be open and accessible to passers-by. Services are held throughout the year on every Sunday and public holiday. Vodskov Parish Hall exhibits works by a changing roster of artists, with exhibitions changing about four times a year.

More activities and trip planning

At Nymarksminde Farmpark, visitors can see Danish farm animals. Many of the animals can be fed and petted. The facilities also include a large outdoor playground and an 18-hole football golf course. The farm park is in Vodskov, close to Aalborg and a few minutes' drive from the motorway. Check the travel information before setting off.

At the Hammer Bakker dog exercise area, the long, straight rows of cypress trees offer an opportunity to practise directional work as part of your dog's basic training. The open area is suitable for practising “frit søg” (free search). These training opportunities offer a different focus from the hiking trails and cultural sites, and may be worth considering when planning your time in Vodskov.

Your trip plans can therefore focus on a range of themes: a circular route, a hiking loop with an observation tower and camping areas, natural landscapes, and cultural and leisure activities. For activities with set dates, such as the guided tour, it is advisable to check the schedule before you travel.
