Boeslum: Beach, Reef and Coastal Landscape
Accommodation in Boeslum
Boeslum brings together the Kattegat coast, beach landscapes, coastal nature and historical connections. When choosing a hotel, you can consider which aspect of the area you want to shape your stay: the beach, underwater life, outdoor activities or the history of the landscape.
Coast and beach landscape
The Boeslum coastal landscape stretches along the Kattegat coast. From the coastal foreland, you can enjoy views across the Kattegat and of the island of Hjelm. Around Boeslum Beach, vegetation reaches the coast in places, screening the holiday homes from the shore.
Boeslum Beach has a wide beach meadow covered with grass and flowers. The water is clear and gets deep relatively quickly. If you are planning to spend time at the beach, the meadow and the water are two distinct features: one shapes the view of the beach, while the other describes the water itself.
Syddjurs Municipality lists Boeslum among its six Blue Flag beaches; the award is given annually. The year of the award is therefore relevant to your planning.
Reef and nature at Boeslum Beach
A rocky reef lies just offshore from Boeslum Beach. The coastal reef offers scenes of small fish and hermit crabs; flatfish may also be found there. For travelers interested in marine nature, this is a distinct focus alongside the beach meadow and views across the Kattegat.
The coastal mason bee is also part of the area's natural heritage: a small population of this globally rare species lives at Boeslum and Dråby beaches.
Mols Bjerge National Park offers guided snorkeling excursions at Boeslum Beach. The activity is seasonal. If you would like to include it in your travel plans, check the dates for the relevant season.
Trails, activities and shelter
The shelter at Boeslum Beach serves as a base for kayaking, hiking and cycling in the area. It is a point of reference for three different activities that you can fit into your daily plans. Camping at the shelter is prohibited, so do not plan to pitch a tent there.
Sporet ved Dråby runs along Purbækken in Boeslum Gunger and is designated as a pedestrian trail.
Historical connections
Boeslum Gunger was an old sea inlet that once connected Dråby Sø to the sea. Boesholm Voldsted is located near the now-vanished village of Boeslum, close to Ebeltoft. Archaeological excavations at Boesholm Voldsted uncovered the remains of a farm dating from the 14th to the 17th century. These two connections have different historical focuses: one concerns a former landscape feature, the other archaeologically uncovered farm remains.
