Knebel: Dolmens, Hiking Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Knebel
Knebel can be explored through specific destinations and routes: Poskær Stenhus represents Stone Age heritage, while trails through Knebel Plantation and Knebel Vig offer other ways to experience the landscape. Knebel Church combines a historic site with an altarpiece; a cycling route, cultural group and harbour round out the picture. When planning your trip, you can choose how to balance history, nature, activity and culture.
Poskær Stenhus and the trails
Poskær Stenhus is Denmark’s largest Stone Age dolmen and dates from around 3300 BC. The car park at Poskær Stenhus has picnic tables and toilets; you can also fill up with water there. Before your trip, check whether these facilities are available for your use.
There are two hiking options of different lengths. The public trail through Knebel Plantation is 1.5 km long and starts either at Poskær Stenhus or at Daalerne. Tinghulestien is 5.8 km long and starts at Poskær Stenhus in Knebel on Mols. The different distances make it easy to choose a route, while the named starting points help you plan.
The trail through Knebel Plantation passes through Tinghulen, one of the area’s largest kettle holes. The site also has a historical connection: until 1687, Tinghulen served as the assembly site for the court of Mols Herred. Here, a distinctive landform and the site’s former function come together on the same trail.
Knebel Church, views and cycling route
Knebel Church has stood on its hill overlooking Knebel Vig since around 1175. From the church, you can see Knebel Vig, which opens west towards Kalø Vig, as well as Mols Bjerge to the west and north. The view is defined by specific landscape names and directions.
The altarpiece by Bjørn Nørgaard in Knebel Church, created in 1999, interprets the death and resurrection of Jesus. The church thus connects its long history with a work of art whose year of creation and subject are specified.
There is also a specific route for a cycling trip: the Mols Hoved route is 30 km long and hilly. It passes Knebel Church; its app provides information about the listed stops. App content may change. Compared with the hiking trails, Mols Hoved is significantly longer and is designated as a cycling route.
Culture and harbour
Molsværket’s cultural group organises, among other things, concerts and children’s theatre. If you would like to include an event in your travel plans, check the latest dates in advance.
At Knebelvig Jolle- og Bådehavn, all the piers have electricity connections and drinking water. The bathing and toilet facilities are in Brohuset at the end of the access road. These destinations and activities give you specific points of reference for exploring Knebel based on your interests: from archaeological heritage and hiking trails to art, culture and harbour facilities.
